Weekend Doctor: Hospital prep

One of my friends asked the other day about how he could file his advance directives, specifically durable power of attorney and living will, with the hospital to be used in emergencies. In addition, there are many different pieces of information that would be helpful whenever someone comes to a hospital, emergency room or sees a physician. 

We begin with what the primary problem is or chief complaint. It is helpful to write down the problem, what are the symptoms and what are your concerns and questions, so that nothing is missed in the encounter.

Village trucks preview branding update

A new look is being featued on Village of Ada trucks and the village website. The design will be used where you may be used to seeing the village seal. The design features the historic 1887 Pennsylvania Railroad depot, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Steingass pottery holds spring cleaning sale

Local potter Andrew Steingass is holding a Spring Cleaning Pottery Sale from April 29-May 1, noon -5:00 each day.

He reports on Facebook: "Kiln has been firing well so I have an overflow of new work and am needing to make space in the studio. Old works will be discounted as much as 50%."

The sale is located at 3354 CR-1, Ada, OH, which is east of SR-235 and south of US-30.

In his About section, Steingass notes, "I am a ceramic artist living in Ada, Ohio. I make primarily functional pottery and fire with a wood kiln."

Lions mulch sales raise scholarship funds

Now is the time to tend to your garden while supporting local students. The Ada Lions Club mulch sales begin today, April 30, raising funds for scholarships. Since 2000, the Ada Lions Club has presented 103 scholarship awards totaling $92,750.00. This does not include awards for 2022, which are still pending.

The sale also offers the convenience of local delivies. Bulk and bagged mulch can be purchased in Ada or delivered to Ada addresses and the surrounding area.

Mulch prices:

Brown Bulk:  $35 per bobcat scoop, Brown Bag:  $5 per bag

Black Bulk:  $40 per bobcat scoop, Black Bag:  $5 per bag

Photo-story: Third graders get free tree tutorial

(Can you say that headline five times fast?)

On April 29, Ada's third graders got a free tree seedling and tree planting tutorial from the Village of Ada. The mayor, village employees, and members of the tree commission met with students on the south patio to celebrate Arbor Day. The village came prepared with white swamp oak seedlings for the students to plant and the students came prepared with newly-learned information and drawings of trees.

The occasion was both fun and formal. Mayor Dave Retterer read the following proclamation #2022-01:

Agenda and Zoom link for May 3 Council meeting

The Ada village council is scheduled to hold a regular meeting on May 3, 2022. To preview the agenga and minutes to be approved from the prior meeting, see the May 3 Meeting Packet.

Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month at 6:30 pm. 

Meetings are normally held in Council Chambers, located on the 2nd floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 115 West Buckeye Ave.  Elevator service is available.
