May 11 meeting of Hardin Co. Astronomy Club

7 p.m. at Kenton Courthouse

The Hardin County Astronomy Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday May 11 in the Veterans meeting room in the Kenton Courthouse. 

Those present will be given a draft of the Constitution and bylaws for the club. 

There will be a program by Josh Crawford.  Also, the Constellation Virgo will be
introduced.  Ideas for the James Webb Space Telescope first light events
will be discussed if time permits.

Weekend Doctor: Facts and myths about ticks

Now that the weather is warmer and you may be spending more time outdoors, it’s a great time to brush up on your knowledge about ticks and preventing tickborne illnesses. Below are some facts and myths about ticks.

Fact: Repellants containing only DEET are not sufficient to deter ticks

Look for clothing treated with permethrin or tick-repellant sprays containing permethrin which can kill ticks on contact.

Myth: Ticks can drop from tree branches onto your head or body

Ora Puckett worked for ATI

Ora Puckett, age 72, of Alger, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 1:10 p.m. at her residence in Alger, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 21, 1950, in Barbourville, Kentucky to the late Beve and Lena (Mason) Smith, Jr.  On June 29, 1968, Ora married Ellis Puckett and he survives in Alger.

Also surviving is a son, Michael Puckett of Alger; three daughters: Tracy (Steve) LaPrade of Lima, Wendolyn Puckett of St. Marys, and Tabitha Slone of Harrod; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers: Jabe (Jenny) Smith of Corbin, KY, and Ted (Margaret) Smith of Horse Branch, Ky; and a sister, Pat (Terry) Kessinger of Centertown, KY.

My Time at the Wilson Football Factory with Jane Helser on May 18

The Ada Ohio Historical Society will host My Time at the Wilson Football Factory with Jane Helser at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St.

Helser will give a talk about her 48-year career at the Wilson Football Factory. In the attached photo Helser is pictured with Peyton Manning, the NFL quarterback who played for 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and four seasons with the Denver Broncos. Helser was featured on the television program Peyton's Places in 2019.
