What's happening in August and September in Ada? Here's the Community Highlights

Look at all those August and September activities planned in Ada.

For starters, there's the Lincoln Highway Buy Way garage sale, the 101st annual Farmers' and Merchants' Picnic and lots of school events (new teacher day is Aug.12).

Maysville church holds gospel sing Aug. 2

Auglaize Free United Baptist Church, 118890 Hardin Highway, Maysville, will hold a gospel sing at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2. Performing is David and Sharon Liles and Barb McCarren.

Free swim at Ada pool on Aug. 9

The Ada Lions' Club is sponsoring a free swim at the Ada Community Swimming Pool for the first 200 children the day of the F&M Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 9.

"We hope it is a warm sunny day and there are many children who take advantage of this free swim. Thanks to the  Village of Ada for assisting the Ada Lions with this project," said Jill Simmons of the Lions Club.

 

Next Ada chamber meeting is Aug. 20

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the Community Health Professionals conference room, according to Deb Curlis, chamber president.

"Summer is going fast and its time to discuss upcoming events for the rest of the year," she said. " Guests from the Hardin County Business Alliance will be at the August meeting.

Kiwanis Club surprises Charles Van Dyne with tree planting in his honor

Charles Van Dyne joined a special group of Ada residents as announced in a surprise at the recent Kiwanis Club meeting.

The club announced that it has planted a tree at the Ada park in Van Dyne’s honor.

Here’s a list of some of the community projects that Van Dyne assisted in during his professional career in Ada.

• Service including the Ada Kiwanis Club, Hardin County Community Foundation, the Hardin County Bar Association for over 50 years and the Benevolent and Fraternal Order of Elks.

• Van Dyne has also served at a sitting Hardin County Judge and has practiced law in Ada for many years.

Tennis anyone? Ada youth love the summer sport

USTA Junior Team Tennis was the craze in Ada last week. Instruction and matches took place at the Ohio Northern University courts.
