MEADVILLE. Pa. — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team capped off an undefeated opening weekend with a 74-56 victory over tournament host Allegheny (Pa.) Saturday afternoon in the Allegheny Tip-Off Tournament, giving head women's basketball coach Michele Durand her 300th victory in her 18-year tenure at ONU.

Coach Durand now stands at 300-163 in her coaching career at Northern, which equates to a .648 winning percentage, making her the winningest coach in program history. She owns 421 career victories overall, which includes her time at ONU and an 11-year stint at nearby NCAA Division III institution Bluffton.

WINNECONNE, Wis. — Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season by finishing fifth out of 280 runners in 24:37 at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships on a cold Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

McVey posted his second consecutive top-10 finish at the championships, as he was 10th in 24:37 as a junior in 2017.

The top 40 runners earn All-America honors.

Michelle Goslee, organizer of the food drive and craft and vendor sale at the Railroad Depot on Saturday, displays some of the canned food donated by customers. The food was given to the Hardin County Neighborhood Opportunity Center. Due to the current popularity of vendor shows, Michelle has formed the One Stop Shop to organize events for vendors. She signs up vendors, finds a location, pays the rent, and promotes the sale. A dozen vendors were on hand Saturday. The next sale is scheduled from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Depot. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to greet the children and listen to their wish lists.

Junior diver Libby Sartschev  claimed both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving program to a 135-88 victory over Wittenberg Friday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 2-1 overall while the Tigers drop to 0-4 on the season.

In addition to Sartchev's diving dominance, ONU saw five individuals and a relay team earn victories in the swimming portion of the evening.

MEADVILLE, Pa. — The ONU women's basketball program raised the curtain on its 2018-19 season in winning fashion Friday afternoon, defeating Chatham (Pa.) 70-43 in the opening game of the Allegheny (Pa.) Tip-Off Tournament in Meadville, Pa..

Northern begins the new season with a 1-0 overall record following the victory. Meanwhile, the Cougars suffer their first loss this season and fall to 3-1 overall.

Senior guard Jenna Dirksen and junior center Emily Mescher paced the Polar Bear offense with 12 points each. Meanwhile, the latter would tack on a team-high seven rebounds in the contest, leading ONU to a sizeable 50-33 edge on the boards.

The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving program upended in-state rival Wittenberg Friday evening, capturing the team's first non-conference dual victory this season with a 141-82 win over the Tigers at the ONU Sports Center.

 

The Polar Bears secured seven titles in 13 total events to move the program to 2-1 in dual meets in the 2018-19 campaign. Meanwhile, the Tigers drop to 1-3 overall.
