It's until Dec. 1 at the public library

Sonny Zank looks over the many items on display for a silent auction at the Ada Public Library.

The auction, which has items of interest for children, youth, and adults, will conclude Saturday, Dec. 1.

The items have been donated by individuals, businesses, and organizations from Ada and surrounding towns.

Proceeds will benefit the summer reading program. Some items include a gift certificate to Kaleidoscope Farms (think Christmas trees), Dietsch’s chocolate, a Wilson football, LED lantern, haircut, and a giant beanbag chair.

Ten Ohio Northern student/athletes were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for 2018 in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

 

Leading the list of Polar Bears grabbing All-OAC honors was senior left tackle Sam Shook(New Philadelphia), who was named the Ken Wable Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Other ONU players joining Shook as First Team honorees were senior receiver Chad Rex(Brandenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch), senior kicker Chase Watson (Lima/Elida) and junior linebacker Mark Niles (Miramar, Fla.)

Ada's railroad park has a long history in the community. Here's one of the earliest photos of the park. This is a colorized post card from the collection of Lee Crouse. According to Jimmy Wilson, the Civil War cannon is aimed toward Fort Sumter, South Carolina, where the war erupted on April 12, 1861.

According to Crouse: "The girl on the bench at the railroad park was Alice W. Gessaman-Cotner born May 23, 1910, and died in Bluffton May 18, 2004.

The Icon spotted this plate on a Chevrolet truck. It's a Hocking County plate.

Two tree-lighting ceremonies in early December

Bridge Hospice, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will host its annual “Light Up a Life” tree-lighting ceremonies in Bowling Green and Findlay this December. Through a tree-lighting and candle-lighting ceremony, loves ones who have passed will be honored. Light refreshments will be provided. 

The Bowling Green ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room at Heritage Corner, located at 1069 Klotz Road, Bowling Green.

The Findlay ceremony will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m. in The Chapel at Birchaven Village, located at 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay.
