he Ohio Northern Men's cross country team finished second out of 22 teams at the All-Ohio Collegiate Championship on Saturday at Cedarville.

The Polar Bears finished second in the event with a total of 96 points. No. 35 Case Western won the meet with 55 points. John Carroll, Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Northern had the three of the top twenty finishers on the day.

Sophomore Nathan Rosenbaum navigated the 8k course in a time of 25:48.74 and finished seventh.

The No. 25 Ohio Northern women's cross country team finished 4thout of 21 teams at the All-Ohio Collegiate Championships on Saturday.

N0. 18 Oberlin finished first with 57 points while N0. 14 Case Western was second with 89 points. Kenyon, ONU and Denison rounded out the top five.

The Polar Bears finished 4th in the event with a total of 141 points.

Northern had the two of the top five finishers on the day.

Senior Alison Steinbrunner finished in first place with a time of 17:53.47 seconds while Senior Lydia Weaver collected a third place finish with a time of 18:27.74.

Dr. Srinivasa Vemuru, Ohio Northern University professor of electrical and computer engineering, was awarded a National Science Foundation Enhancing Access to the Radio Spectrum (EARS)** grant to conduct a collaborative research project with the University of Akron, the University of Toledo and Norfolk State University.

Titled “Enhancing Spectral Access via Directional Spectrum Sensing Employing 3-D Cone Filterbanks: Interdisciplinary Algorithms and Prototypes,” the grant totals $49,964.

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the ONU Men’s and Women’s Choruses, the University Singers, and ONU Chamber Singers in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will open with the ONU Women’s Chorus performing four selections from Michael Este, Matthew Armstrong, John Floyd Campbell and “Wicked” composer Stephen Schwartz. The ONU Women’s Chorus is under the direction of Marilyn Roth Basinger, lecturer in the ONU Department of Music.

Molly Sheets, Ada third grader, discovers how to walk on stilts. The stilt game was among several old-time activities at the Bluffton Fall Festival on Sept. 29. Molly visited the Swiss Homestead, built in 1843, where several old-time events took place.

Doris I Weihrauch, 89, of Ada, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

Doris was born Oct. 5, 1922, in McGuffey, Ohio, to Everett and Louella (Symonds) Shadley, who preceded her in death.

She was married to Clarence e. Weihrauch on October 31, 1941, and he died in 1978.
