The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the ONU Men’s and Women’s Choruses, the University Singers, and ONU Chamber Singers in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will open with the ONU Women’s Chorus performing four selections from Michael Este, Matthew Armstrong, John Floyd Campbell and “Wicked” composer Stephen Schwartz. The ONU Women’s Chorus is under the direction of Marilyn Roth Basinger, lecturer in the ONU Department of Music.
The ONU Men’s Chorus will perform pieces ranging from Russian composer Chesnokov to Tim Jones’ quirky “The Pirate Song.”
The University Singers will perform four pieces by Franz Biebl, William Billings, Ola Gjeilo and Moses Hogan. The selections include early American music, an antiphonal piece and modern settings of Latin texts.
Chamber Singers, a select group of University Singers, will feature four pieces. The selections include works from composers William Billings and Paul Fetler and range from early American to contemporary pieces. The Men’s Chorus, University Singers and Chamber Singers are under the direction of Dr. Ben Ayling, ONU choral director and assistant professor of music.
The concert will conclude with the ONU hymn, which all audience members who are alumni of any ONU choral group are invited on stage to sing.
