2023 Ada High School Honor Awards summary

CORRECTION: Information for Valedictorian Isaiah Broge was not included in the original version of the article. Updated May 21.

At the Senior Honor Awards ceremony on Monday, May 15, it was announced that Amelia Alexander, Kaitlyn Bowden, Isaiah Broge, Lily Diehl, Meghan Erickson, Dale Hoyt, Brendan Jameson, Courtney Sumner, Robert Waters and Sabina Zheng have been named Valedictorians of the Ada High School Class of 2023.

Scholarships and awards for the Valedictorians and for 15 other students recognized at the Senior Honors awards are listed below, as well as Departmental Awards and Scholastic Awards for Seniors.

Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2023 on Sunday, May 28, at 2:00 pm. in the high school gymnasium. 

Amelia Alexander, daughter of Robert and Shelleigh Alexander 
Plans to attend Bowling Green State University to major in Political Science
High school activities have included: volleyball, cross country, tennis, National Honor Society, Secret Admirers Club, Ada Mental Health Alliance, Interclass, film club, book club,  junior class officer, Buckeye Girls State, Harvest and Herb Queen, and DOGS volunteer

Melovete Pummell worked for Ford Motor Company

Melovete Pummell, age 94, of Alger, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

She was born on December 12, 1928, in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late Kelly and June (Push) Minix, Sr.  Her father, Kelly and her mother, June Miller preceded her in death.  Melovete married Robert Pummell, he preceded her in death. 

Huntsville man crashes into Sheriff’s cruiser

A Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy escaped injury during a Friday evening (5/19/23)incident that resulted in heavy damage to his cruiser and the arrest of a Huntsville man.  

At 8:13 p.m. Hardin County Central Dispatch received a report of a vehicle being operated recklessly near Ohio Route 67 and County Road115. The initial call was followed by numerous additional reports of the west bound vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road, leaving the roadway, and driving in reverse.  The vehicle continued westbound to the Jumbo area, where witnesses said the driver exited it then returned to it and drove off headed east bound.

Although cephalgia (headache) is considered one of the most prevalent health complaints, the substantial societal and individual burden associated with headaches is often overlooked.

Knowing the different types of headaches and their treatment modalities can help manage and potentially prevent headaches.

Types of headache pain
Tension headaches - The most common type of headache, often described as a tight band around the head. These headaches typically result in mild to moderate pain and are often stress related.

Ada hosts district track meet at War Memorial Stadium

Jolliff, Brown score 2nd place event finishes, King takes a 3rd

The Ada High School track and field teams competed at and hosted the 15-team Div. III district meet Thursday and Saturday, May 18 and 20, at War Memorial Stadium.

Columbus Grove captured the boys team title, while Riverdale captured the girls team title.

Ada municipal pool opens May 27

Save on passes purchased before opening day; schedule rentals early

Ada’s municipal pool, 426 S Park Dr, will open on Saturday, May 27. That means this is the last week for discounted pool passes, which may be purchased at the Ada Water Department, 115 Buckeye Ave. The discount is $25 on family passes and $10 on single passes. Proof of tax payment must be presented to receive this discount.

Credit cards are accepted for these advance passes. Passes purchased at the pool are by cash or check only.
