Search expands for escaped Lima inmates; Lee apprehended in Kentucky

UPDATE POSTED AT 9:53 A.M.

According to www.13abc.com / 13 Action News early on Wednesday, May 24, "A police department in Henderson, Kentucky ... "had arrested one of the men that escaped from the prison in Lima earlier this week."

James Marion Lee was arrested but Bradley Gillespie, fled on foot and had not yet been apprehended. Gillespie was convicted for a double murder.

The following media release was issued at 11:32 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23:

LIMA – The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and  Correction are investigating after two inmates, Bradley Gillespie, 50, and James Lee, 47 escaped from the Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution (AOCI). 

Today [Tuesday, May 23] during a prisoner count at 11:00 a.m., ODRC officials determined Lee was missing. Angela Stuff, AOCI warden, approved an emergency count of all prisoners in  the facility and escape posts were manned. During the emergency count, it was  discovered Gillespie was also missing. The ODRC notified law enforcement and officers from multiple jurisdictions, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Patrol responded to the facility. 

During the course of the investigation, prison officials determined Gillespie and Lee  were last observed on surveillance video inside the facility at 8:41 a.m. on May 22. 

The Patrol continues to work with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners  to investigate potential leads.

Two inmates escape from Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution

Warning from the Allen County Sherrif's Office:

2 inmates have escaped from Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio. Information is limited at the moment. Please be aware and use caution. If you see either inmate please DO NOT APPROACH. Immediately call 911.

James Lee – 47 years old. Male, brown hair, blue eyes, 300 pounds

Bradley Gillespie – 50 years old, male, bald, blue eyes, 200 pounds

The Sheriff's Office will update with more information as it is available.

1:00 p.m. Memorial Day ceremonies in Ada

2023 Memorial Day ceremonies will be hosted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5134 OH-235, Ada. Lee Crouse is the guest speaker.

The annual event is co-hosted by the Foss Agin Meyer American Legion Post 185 and the Ream McElroy VFW Post 9381.

ONU golfer Honigford named to All-Great Lakes Region team

 Ohio Northern junior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) was named to the 2022-23 All-Great Lakes Region Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

Honigford closed the 2022-23 women's golf season as a three-time Medalist with a team-best 78.8 average for 18 holes through 20 rounds of play. She competed in 10 events and posted eight top-four finishes.

Ohio State University Extension, Hardin County will offer two Safe Sitter® classes for young teens, grades 4-8, June 8, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and July 13 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the OSU Extension Office, 1021 West Lima Street, Suite 103, Kenton, OH 43326. Registration deadlines are June 2 for the June 8 class and July 7 for the July 13 class.

More than 775,000 young teens have graduated from the medically-accurate program which teaches how, why, and where injuries happen so they can be prevented. The cost of the course is $35 per teen and includes all materials, lunch, and snacks. Partial scholarships are available. Verizon announces 5G service in Ada

CAMBRIDGE, OH--Ada is among the locations that now have access to a 5G network from Verizon. Residents across Sylvania, Swanton, Lima, Ada, Mount Vernon, Zanesville, and Cambridge now have access to higher speeds and greater capacity. Verizon call it "5G Ultra Wideband power and performance comparable to a wired broadband internet connection to customers’ pockets."
