HARDIN COUNTY–In past years we dreamt of a dry spring. We should be careful what we wish for, as we face an early dry spell this season. The OSU College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences weather stations on the Wooster Campus and Northwest and Western Agricultural Research Stations reported 58-70% less precipitation in May than normal. Dry weather is not only a concern for Ohio now, but several other states are also facing similar or worse conditions, especially those in the central Corn Belt.

Ohio-wide air quality advisory for June 7-8

UPDATE: The advisory expired at the end of June 8.

Ohio EPA is issuing a statewide Air Quality Advisory as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality. The advisory is in effect beginning Wednesday, June 7. Ohio EPA expects the Air Quality Index to be in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” to “unhealthy” ranges.

When air quality is in this range, people who are in sensitive groups (due to medical conditions, exposure conditions, or innate susceptibility) may experience health effects during outdoor activities. To decrease the potential for health issues, sensitive groups of people (children, elderly, people with asthma or COPD) should limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity.
