Plenty of Johnny Appleseed events still to go in June

Elks Invitational Swim Meet and WOAL Championships, July 7-8

More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Kenton on July 7-8, for the 41st annual Elks Invitational Swim Meet and Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) Championship. The WOAL meet is for swimmers aged 5-18 who are members of a league team.

The Kenton Municipal Swimming pool is the host site for the even, which will host teams from Ada, Bluffton, Findlay, Kenton, Shawnee Country Club, Wapakoneta, Westside and Van Wert. These eight teams will compete for the 2023 league title.  

D. Jacqueline Kent worked for the Ada Schools

D. Jacqueline Kent, age 85, of Ada, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 10:27 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System. 

She was born on June 23, 1937, in Middlesboro, KY to the late Royce and Edna (Mason) Sampson. On August 7, 1955 Jackie married Darrell E. Kent and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2012. 

Thelma L. Fee worked at Triplett Corporation

Thelma L. Fee, age 93, of Bluffton, Ohio passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 5:08 p.m. at Vancrest of Ada. 

She was born on February 17, 1930 in North Baltimore, Ohio to the late Virgil L. and Helen (Northrup) Krontz. On December 18, 1948 Thelma married Richard E. Fee, Sr. and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1997. 

June 20 Ada Council agenda

The Village of Ada Council will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20. The meeting packet is available HERE, a link to council information provided on the Village website.

Village valve maintenance beginning June 19

Ada's Public Works Department will be performing routine maintenance on water distribution valves the week of June 19, 2023 beginning on the North side of the Village.

Outdoor Family Movie Night at County Line Church

County Line Church is on the corner of County Line and Sandusky Rd. is hosting a free Outdoor Family Movie Night on Friday, June 23 at 8:30 p.m. 

The movie will begin at dusk. 

Free popcorn, hotdogs and activities for the kids will be provided. The event is rain or shine; If raining, the movie will be viewed in the barn. 

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to 4227 N Hardin Rd, Harrod.

ONU Law graduate awarded national prize for Fourth Amendment analysis

Justin Marks, JD ’23, said he was “astonished” when he received the call that he was the winner of this year’s New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) Student Note Competition, noting, “The recognition came at the end of law school and was like the cherry on top.” He was awarded a $10,000 prize to be split with the Law Review student organization at Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law.

Gator swimmers lose at Wapak

Ada visits the Bluffton Tuesday in twice-postponed makeup meet

The Ada summer swim team lost at Wapakoneta in a Western Ohio Aquatic League dual meet Monday evening.

The Gators fell 766-341 in the combined boys/girls final team score. 

Wapak beat the Ada boys by a 357-168 score, while the Wapak girls defeated the Gator girls 409-173.

Landry Harriger touched first in five races in the boys 9-10 age bracket to lead the Gator boys. 

Lincoln Harriger (11-12) won three races, while Luke Harriger took first in two events of the 7-8 age division.

Ada’s Kyleigh Nau finished first in three eight and under division races to help lead the Gator girls.

Gator Livvy Vieira also won three races in the 9-10 girls bracket.

Adaite Isaac Agozzino won two events in the boys 11-12 age group.

The Ada boys fell to 2-1 with the loss, while the Gator girls drop to 0-3.
