Letter: A big thank to all those who made summer a little more like a “normal” summer with the pool being open

Icon viewers:
I just want to send out a big thank to all those who made summer a little more like a “normal” summer with the Ada swimming pool being open!

A big thank you to the Ada Village Council for having the courage to say “yes!” to having the pool open; knowing it was a big risk, knowing it was going to take a lot of work to get the pool ready, and knowing there was not much money to be made from this (if any).

A big thank you to the Village administration for all their work in preparing the pool. The entrance and exit set-up were both safe and smooth, following all the protocols necessary. Well designed!

Once upon a time at ONU

Here's a view of Ohio Northern University that may not look very familiar. It's from the Ada Public Library historic photo collection. The year is not certain, but it is near the turn of an earlier century. Viewer comments are welcome.

Part 8 – Take an Ada art walk

Summer series focusing on The Remington Walk on the ONU campus

AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STORY -

Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Ada community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.

As a weekly series, The Icon will feature the art located on The Remington Walk on the Ohio Northern University campus. For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.

Either way, it’s an opportunity to take a walk and view some art that is uniquely Ada. The Walk is spread through campus and may be viewed by following the ONU walking path, beginning near Affinity Village, west of The Freed Center.

"I was told to go to a wound care center for my diabetic foot infection and that I may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?"

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in a patient's blood. HBOT involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment.

Multi-condition nasal spray recalled

Manufacturers of desmopressin nasal spray recalls all lots

This column is provided by Ohio Northern University HealthWise Pharmacy.

All lots of Ferring Pharmaceuticals' multi-condition nasal spray are being recalled.

The problem? These lots have higher-than-specified amounts of desmopressin.

Higher amounts of desmopressin can lead to abnormally low levels of sodium in the blood. And very low levels of sodium in the blood can lead to dangerous health events, such as seizures, coma and even death.

Icon's Veggie Garden of the Week

Anspaugh garden is a family project - even with the chickens

Story and photo by Jimmy Wilson
Today’s featured Ada Icon Veggie Garden belongs to Kathleen Anspaugh and her family.

You probably know her from Keith’s Hardware where she has worked for many years.

Kathleen says that seven generations Anspaughs have lived just northwest of Ada since 1871.

Like many locals, vegetable gardening is part of their way of life, and the whole family helps.  Even the chickens do what they can to ensure a good crop.

The Ada Icon Veggie Gardens highlight vegetable gardens in the Ada area as a way of promoting self-sufficiency and agriculture education.
