Part 9 - Take an Ada art walk

Summer series focusing on The Remington Walk on the ONU campus

MORE PHOTOS OF THIS WORK
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STORY -

Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Ada community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.

As a weekly series, The Icon features the art located on The Remington Walk on the Ohio Northern University campus. For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.

Either way, it’s an opportunity to take a walk and view some art that is uniquely Ada. The Walk is spread through campus and may be viewed by following the ONU walking path, beginning near Affinity Village, west of The Freed Center.

Functional art

You work with what you have. If masks are the thing, then make masks. Ada Middle School art students are creating tie-dye masks. We can imagine that there will soon be a great demand for this product.

You might call it functional art. (From Ada Bulldogs Facebook)

It's all about surface tension

Attention parents of Ada middle school science students –

When you ask, "What did you do in school today?" you might hear this: "Do you know what surface tension is?"

To prove to your child that you are aware of scientific terms, just repond this way: "It's the tension of the surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid, which tends to minimize surface area."

Wow, bet you couldn't verbalize that in an impromptu speech if you were called for an explanation. Photos from Ada Bulldogs Facebook.

Testing, one, two, three

You will hear Ada's new tornado siren in a test on Sept. 3 - this is only a test

Testing, one, two, three.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, the Village of Ada will test its new tornado siren at noon, according to Michael Harnishfeger, police chief.

He said that the  siren will run for 3 minutes during the test.

In addition, the village will test the siren each third Wednesday of every month at noon.

As a note, Ohio Northern University completes a test of its tornado siren on the first Wednesday of every month.

"With the addition of this siren, Ada will be well covered to provide early warning to residents in case of a tornado," said Harnishfeger.
