The following is an update from Ada school superintendent, Meri Skilliter.
We continue to miss our students terribly and understand that this situation can be a strain on everyone’s mental health.
The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board (MHRSB) of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties has worked hard to reconfigure some of their services to accommodate people during these unusual circumstances.
I wanted to share some of these services and the contact information for each one:
The Ohio Northern women's cross country team released its 2020 schedule Friday. The slate features eight meets — six in Ohio and two in Indiana — over the course of three months.
The Polar Bears begin the season with a mid-week meet. Northern will play host to the Hokum Karem Sept. 1 in a meet that will include Heidelberg and Bluffton.
The month of September will feature two more competitions. ONU will travel to Delaware for the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational Sept. 5 before competing in the All-Ohio Championships Sept. 19 in Akron.
The Kenton Hardin Health Department has been notified of a third confirmed case for COVID-19 in a Hardin County resident.
We have contacted the patient and the individuals exposed and they have been instructed to self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. The health department will be in daily contact with these individuals for monitoring of temperatures and symptoms. No personal information about the case will be released to protect the privacy of the individual.
As Dr. Amy Acton, Director of the Ohio Department of Health continues to report, we know community spread has been occurring throughout Ohio, including our community.
The 114th annual Ada High School Interclass Competition enters Day 3. Icon viewers may watch today’s contestants on the video at the bottom of this story.
Three short contestants in today’s video are:

Because of the no-school situation, the competition is on YouTube and may be viewed on the Icon and Ada Bulldogs Facebook. CLICK HERE to view the entire competition program.
Vancrest of Ada residents tackled social distancing by creating a video that could easily win an Academy Award for short subjects.
A three-minute video on Vancrest’s Facebook(once on the Facebook, scroll down to find the video) features nearly 30 residents with messages to their families and loved loves.
Sara Vordermark, assistant administrator, tells the Icon that while it’s been a crazy month, everyone is so understanding with the situation.
Dear 4-H members, families, volunteers, and supporters:
It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you.
Due to ongoing health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision has been made to cancel all Ohio State University Extension in-person programming through July 6.
This includes all 4-H programs, activities, and events. Additionally, we’ve made the very difficult decision to cancel all 4-H camps through Aug. 31.
Although in-person programming is canceled, we will continue to offer virtual 4-H experiences.
The Ada Icon's bear hunt will post locations of the cuddly little guys perched in windows around town and in the countyside.
As of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, viewers have reported addresses (and some photos) of four teddy bears. We plan to post the bears on a map for viewers to cruise town and discover these for themselves.
