Here’s area students on the spring ONU dean’s list

Several students from Hardin County area school district surrounding Ada were named to the spring Ohio Northern University dean’s list.

To be eligible, a student must attain a 3.5 grade point average or higher and be a full-time student.

The area students are listed below.

Alger library summer reading program finale this Saturday

The Alger Public Library will hold its Summer Reading Program Finale this Saturday, July 20, from noon to 3 p.m. The event includes indoor pizza and prizes, and an outdoor inflatable dual rock climbing slide. All are welcome to attend, whether you've taken part in the reading program or not.

The library is located at 100 W. Wagner St.

Ada's Ethan Daniels recognized at swim championships

Senior swim team members were recognized during this past weekend's Western Ohio Aquatic League championships, including Ethan Daniels, from Ada Alligators. The entire list of league seniors follows:

Lugibihl's Blue Moon Blueberries are now available

Lugibihl’s Blue Moon Blueberries, 14848 Road 3, (just north of State Route 12), Pandora, has blueberries.

U-pick hours this week are:
Tuesday evening, July 16, from 6-9 p.m.
Wednesday, July 17,  7 a.m.-9 p.m. (all day).
Thursday and Friday, July 18-19 evenings 6-9 p.m.

U-pick price is $2.50 per pound. Orders can be taken for picked berries and these are $5 per pound. Call 419-231-0832 for updated information or orders.

Ada chamber breakfast Wednesday AM

Your opportunity to get caught up on events underway in town

Several items are on Wednesday morning’s chamber agenda, according to Deb Curlis, director of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce. The free breakfast meeting is at 8 a.m. in the Ada Public Library.

Here’s an update on chamber-related activities:

• Mark Wipper has resigned from the board and will move to Colorado this summer. His term ends Dec. 31, and the board chose not to replace him at this time.

• Chamber president Heather Cox said that the chamber’s Facebook continues to add friends. Persons interested in following it may click here.

Ada junior high football practice starts Monday

Ada Junior high football will start  Monday, July 22,  at 6:30  p.m. at the football practice field at the high school.

ONU grad Ryan Bruns will play for Dayton Red Scare

Dayton team is part of a 64-team tourney competition

Ohio Northern All-American Ryan Bruns  will participate in this year's The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with the Dayton Red Scare.

TBT is a 64-team tournament of top-notch professional basketball, featuring college alumni teams, international basketball stars, ex-NBA players and future NBA players competing in a single-elimination 5-on-5 tournament.

The champions from each regional site will move on to Championship Weekend to play for the $2 million, winner-take-all prize in Chicago from Aug. 1-6.

1996-97 VFW-sponsored softball team

In 1996-1997 Ada VFW Post 9381 sponsored a girls' softball team.

Liberty Township receives less rain in June that other Hardin townships

For the growing season since April 15, the average precipitation in all the townships was 16.29 inches, with a wide range from 12.82 inches in Liberty Township to 19.23 inches in Pleasant Township

Hardin County Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 7.08 inches of rain in Hardin County during June, according to Mark Badertscher, extension agent.

Last year, the average rainfall for June was 6.09 inches. Rainfall for June 2019 was 1.46 inches more than the ten-year average rainfall in the month of June.  

Dudley Township received 10.24 inches, the most of the township sites. The least rain in June, 4.51 inches was collected in Liberty Township.
