Mud in your eye on Saturday

Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo hosts 6th annual Get Dirty for Downs Mud Volleyball Tournament in Ada

Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo comes to Ada on Saturday for its sixth annual Get Dirty for Downs Mud Volleyball Tournament. The games take place in the tractor pull area on the east side of the park.

Check in opens at 2 p.m. and following the opening ceremony, play begins at 3:30 p.m.
All teams will enter tournament playoffs after completion of round robin games. 

Food trucks are on site during the tournament and there is a basket raffle, live auction and 50/50 raffle.

Cruz-n-Ada on July 20

VFW car and truck cruise and show gets bigger each year

Last summer's Ada VFW cruz-in-Ada attracted owners of over 60 vehicles. This year's show should be just as large if not better, according to Win Hauenstein.

Here's what you need to know:

The show is from 1 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20, on Main Street, Ada. The street will be closed to through traffic during the event.

Registration is $12 and takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. A cruise is from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards are presented at 7:30 p.m.

Liberty National invites you to a hot dog celebration July 17

Liberty National Bank, Ada, invites Icon viewers to stop into the bank and enjoy a hot dog next Wednesday. The bank celebrates National Hot Dog Day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 17.

Dr. Robert Puckett joins Carey Medical Center

 

Blanchard Valley Medical Practices, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, recently welcomed Robert Puckett, D.O., to Carey Medical Center. The office is located at 120 West S. St., Carey. Dr. Puckett is welcoming new patients.

Dr. Puckett is a Carey native and received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Toledo. He completed his osteopathic medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Puckett then completed his family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine residency at Millcreek Community Hospital, also in Erie. 

Village hires Kerri Mclaughlin as new fiscal officer

She will start on Aug. 5; 31 applications received for the opening

The Village of Ada has hired Kerri Mclaughlin as its new fiscal officer. The hiring took place at the July 2 council meeting.

Mclaughlin will begin her new position on Aug. 5. She has 11 years of experience in municipal finance including with the City of Kenton and the state auditor’s office.

She is currently deputy auditor for the City of Kenton. Nancy Kindle, the part-time fiscal officer for the village, will remain in that position during a transition period.

Kindle was hired on April 16. She is also fiscal officer of the Ada-Liberty Township Joint Ambulance District. She was hired following the dismissal of Crystal Huffer.

Celebration of life service for Byron Weihrauch

Former Ada resident Clarence Byron Weihrauch, 75, of Tombstone  Arizona, died on June 13, 2019. There will be a celebration of life service for him at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 14, at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 4945 State Route 81 Ada.

Foss-Agin-Meyer Post meets July 16

Members will hear from local Boys and Girls State delegattes

The July meeting of the Foss-Agin-Meyer Post of the American Legion will be held on the third Tuesday, July 16, instead of the 4th.  

The meeting will be held at the VFW Hall north of Ada at 7 p.m.  Besides regular business those attending will hear reports from local Buckeye Boy State and Girls States delegates.

Update - Ada pool is officially closed today

THIS STORY WAS UPDATED AT 3:52 P.M.

The hope to fix chemical problems at the Ada Municipal Swimming Pool didn't work out today (Wednesday, July 10).

It was hoped that the pool would open at 4 p.m., but that won't happen now.

The message from the pool Facebook follows: "We will be closed all day. We are sorry! Hopefully tomorrow will be better but stay tuned for any updates!"

ONU senior is New Balance Lacrosse scholar

Ohio Northern senior Jackson Pfister (Upper Arlington) has been named a USILA/Warrior and New Balance Scholar All-American in men's lacrosse for 2019 by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Pfister is the first ONU student/athlete to receive the award, which was given to 75 players from around the country, and graduated with his bachleor's degree in pharmaceutical and healthcare business in May.
