James Wellman named BVHS chief information officer 

Blanchard Valley Health System  welcomes James Wellman, CHCIO as the organization’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO). Wellman will be primarily responsible for overseeing the strategy and development of the information technology department and will join the other members of the BVHS Executive Steering Council.

Independence Day weekend has a major focus on July 4, 1776. As they say, "there's more to the story." Here is a small piece and it is very close to Ada.

Sometimes we forget that there was a "Part 2" of the War for Independence, namely the War of 1812.

Recalling from your Ohio history courses, Britain wanted a do-over and invaded the still-young United States of America. The war spilled over into Ohio just shy of the state's 10th birthday.

Children’s auditions scheduled

for ONU ‘Holiday Spectacular’ extravaganza

Ohio Northern University will hold children’s auditions for the “Holiday Spectacular” extravaganza from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, in the campus’ Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Auditions will be held for singers and dancers ages 5 to 12. Those auditioning may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). No prepared dance or vocal solos, please.

Free community meal at Restore tonight

Restore Community Center is hosting a free community meal tonight, Tuesday, July 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the store.

The meal will be provided by Centiry 21 Sunway Realty. The meal will be roast pork loin, au gratin potatoes, green beans with bacon and dinner rolls.

The meal is open to the public. The store is located at 210 North Main St.

Ada Baptist Church hosts back-to-school bash Aug. 4

Free backpacks and school supplies available for K to 4th graders

First Baptist Church, Ada, will hold a back-to-school bash from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 4.

Free backpacks and school supplies will be provided for children who are in need in Kindergarten through fourth grade. Parents and caregivers must show proof of Ada residency.

The evening includes food, games, crafts, face-painting, an inflatable slide, free backpacks and free school supplies.

 

Regional forages program July 25

Many alfalfa and forage stands across the state took a beating this winter and the wet spring has added insult to injury, according to Mark Badertscher, OSU Extension-Hardin County.

Forage stands were damaged this past winter, and the wet spring has further deteriorated stands that appeared they might recover.  So what are the options to assuring a forage supply for the future? 

A Forages for the Future Program will be held Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Henry High School Commons, 391 E. Columbus St. in St. Henry.

Backpack Blessing at Upper Scioto Valley

Neighbor to Neighbor Community Center presents a Gospel Sing Fund Raiser for Backpack Blessing at Upper Scioto Valley schools.

The event is Saturday, July 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.  at 305 N. Main St., Alger.

Event sponsors say to bring your own lawn chair to enjoy an evening of local talent. Ice cream social and box lunches will be available.
