She's now accepting patients at Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bluffton

Note: Laura Selvidio's parents, David Earl and Kathy (Binkley) Earl, are both Ada High School graduates. Her grandmother, Donna Binkley, lives in Ada.

“I enjoy bringing life into the world. It’s amazing,” Laura Selvidio, nurse midwife, says about her profession.

Earlier this month she became the second nurse midwife to join the staff of Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bluffton.

Selvidio, a certified nurse midwife (CNM), practiced in Georgia and Alaska since 2015 prior to coming to Bluffton. She joins another nurse midwife, Missy Moore, on the staff. Selvidio is in the Bluffton office four days each week.

During this excessive heat warning, the Ada Public Library will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"We have the air conditioner cranked down to 68 degrees and cold bottles of water. Stop in, cool off, and use our free WiFi," says Rhett Grant, library director.

The following lane changes are planned next week on Interstate 75 as it passes around Findlay.

Interstate 75 northbound between the county Road 313 overpass and U.S. 68/state Route 15 will be shifted into a contraflow pattern overnight Tuesday, July 23, into the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 24.

When the shift is complete, two 11-foot lanes of northbound traffic will travel on the southbound side of highway in that area, next to the two lanes of southbound traffic, to allow construction activities to begin on the northbound side of the highway.

Blanchard Valley Medical Practices welcomes Joshua Ebel, MD to the team at Blanchard Valley Urology Associates. Dr. Ebel offers a variety of both surgical and non-surgical treatments for disorders of the male and female urinary tract.

Dr. Ebel completed undergraduate studies at Miami University (Oxford, OH) before pursuing his medical degree, surgical internship, and urology residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and James Cancer Hospital (Columbus, OH).

Sidewalk and curb project in front of major work on SR 235 and 81 coming soon

You've noticed work on sidewalks at street intersections underway this week in Ada. The project involves installation fo curb ramps and concrete sidewalks.

Here more details:

State Route 81 and state Route 235 within the village of Ada will be restricted to one lane at times through the work zone for installation of curb ramps and concrete sidewalks.

The work is associated with a larger project to resurface state Route 81 and state Route 235 in and around Ada, as well as state Route 701 in its entirety.

Resurfacing work is expected to begin in mid-August. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.

Hardin County Road 50 (Liberty Township Road 55-County Road 65) is closed for 6-8 weeks for bridge replacement, according to the Hardin County Engineer's office.

Serving area communities through the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties

Rick Skilliter, husband of Meri Skilliter, Ada school superintendent, became executive director of PASS (Prevention Awareness Support Services), a non-profit organization serving Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties. The appointment was made on July 1.

PASS serves area communities through the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties.

PASS is expanding its footprint in Ohio as a certified prevention agency. According to a PASS news release, the addition of Skilliter allows for continuity of programming during that expansion.

Roland Moore Knoop, 91, died July 5, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Willow Ridge, Bluffton, Ohio.

He was born on March 14, 1928, in Troy, Ohio, to J. Ross and Ethel Mae (Moore) Knoop and they preceded him in death.  In 1958 he married Eloise Crawford and they are divorced.

Roland retired from Schmidlapp Equipment in Covington, Ohio, where he had been a parts man. He previously worked at the Soil Conservation Service in Hardin County for 5 years and was owner of the John Deere Dealership in Kenton from 1965 to 1969. 

Marie Kaiser, 88, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 6:59 PM at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Jan. 24, 1931, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Walter and Nellie (Underwood) Thompson. On Dec. 5, 1948, Marie married Lewis E. Kaiser and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1999.

Marie formerly worked as a cook for the Upper Scioto Valley Schools for several years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Alger. Marie was a Blue Star Mother of three.

Beverly “Bevie” Joan (Weddle) Contris, 63, died Friday, July 12, 2019, at 11:52 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1955, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Samuel E. and Sara M. (Petty) Weddle. Her step-father, Floyd Cleveland survives in Harrod. On Feb. 14, 1973, Bevie married David Contris and he survives in Harrod, Ohio.

Bevie was a self-employed broker for Coast To Coast Freight Brokerage.  She loved her Collie dog, Cassie.

She is survived by one son:  Matt (Jessica) Contris of Lima and two sisters: Marilyn (Jim) Williams of Harrod and Leesa (Dan Jones) Robb of Dearborn, MO and three grandchildren: Tyler, Brynna and Landon.
