Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo comes to Ada on Saturday for its sixth annual Get Dirty for Downs Mud Volleyball Tournament. The games take place in the tractor pull area on the east side of the park.
Check in opens at 2 p.m. and following the opening ceremony, play begins at 3:30 p.m.
All teams will enter tournament playoffs after completion of round robin games.
Food trucks are on site during the tournament and there is a basket raffle, live auction and 50/50 raffle.
Last year 21 teams with about 150 participants from Ohio and neighboring states participated. The event raised several thousand dollars to provide assistance, education, support groups, and to raise awareness of Down Syndrome.
Down Syndrome is not a disease, but a genetic chromosome 21 disorder causing developmental and intellectual delay.
Although Ada does not have a chapter, those wishing to start one or wanting to receive educational materials may call Brad Eaton of Upper Sandusky at 419-731-3908. He and his family have organized the event in Ada for the past several years. More information can be found on the website http://dsagt.org.
