Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., will  hold a Dietsch's ice cream social from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 

The menu includes hot sandwiches, brownies, side dishes, drinks and make your own ice cream sundae.

Once you graduate from Ada High School, you don't know where in the world life will take you.

For Joe Carey (right), life took him to Mansfield where he taught for 31 years then, in "retirement," he joined the Peace Corps where he taught in the Russia Far East for two years, then to Lithuania where he taught four summers, then to Kazakhstan where he taught a year.

Joe, Class of 1959, was inducted into the AHS Hall of Honors during the annual alumni association dinner held at the school on Saturday evening.

At left is Kurt Klingler, association president, who reported 120 people attended the dinner.

Ronald E. Rock, 50, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:06 a.m. at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.

He was born on July 25, 1965, in Findlay, Ohio, to Robert and Gloria Jean (Dyer) Rock, Sr. and they survive in Alger. Ronald married Vicki S. Conklin on June 9, 1984, and she survives in Zanesville.

Ronald retired from the United States Air Force where he served from Sept. 17, 1984 to April 1, 1988. He then worked for the Department of Defense in Columbus, Ohio.

 Junior Lucas Shumate claimed a 10th place finish in the hammer throw Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Divsion III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Walston-Hoover Stadium on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Shumate claimed tenth place with a toss of 182 feet 5.75 inches. The toss came on his third attempt after progressively improving throughout the first two attempts. The junior entered the meet ranked 11th with a season best pitch of 187 feet 2 inches.
