15 minutes with two metal detectors in the Ada park

By Monty Siekerman

There's gold in them thar hills, or so Tom and Rene Harmon would hope. The Elida couple was seeing what they could find at War Memorial Park recently.

What have you found with the metal detectors?
Over the years, we've found some jewelry, old coins, a Boy Scout metal from Utah, a challenge metal from someone in the service, but mostly junk. Its a hobby, were not in it to make money. The rate of return per hour would be minimal. It's fun, you never know what you'll find

Friday in the summer means water day and pizza

By Monty Siekerman
More than 50 kids showed up for Water Day at Ada War Memorial Park on Friday.

Calvin Fisher carries out an armload of boxes that once held pizza and bread sticks.

ReStore sponsors a free meal for children from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the summer.

Fridays are the most popular. That's when pizza is served and Water Day activities are held, such as a water slide and water-filled balloons tossed about at friends or foes.

June 14 is Flag Day and it appears that Ada is decked out in red, white and blue

Photos and story by Monty Siekerman

Clair Romick stands beside cutouts he made for a patriotic display at his home on the southwest corner of W. Lima Ave. and Klingler Rd. Tomorrow, June 14, is Flag Day. Romick served in the Navy during the Korean War.

For other photos of those who fly the flag daily, see the six photos at the end of the story. The photos were all taken a couple of days ago at homes on Christopher Circle.

Here's where to find those Christopher Circle flags:

False alarm

False alarm: Monday morning in Ada, railroad crossing gates kept dropping across Main Street, even though no train was in sight. However, Ada police officers were on the scene to keep traffic moving. (Ken Collins photos)
