Shumate finishes 10th in the hammer throw in DIII nationals
Junior Lucas Shumate claimed a 10th place finish in the hammer throw Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Divsion III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Walston-Hoover Stadium on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Shumate claimed tenth place with a toss of 182 feet 5.75 inches. The toss came on his third attempt after progressively improving throughout the first two attempts. The junior entered the meet ranked 11th with a season best pitch of 187 feet 2 inches.
On Friday, sophomore Matt Molinaro competed in the 800-meter run, winning his heat in what would have been a stadium record 1:49.53, but was disqualified by meet officials after he ran on his inside lane line on the opening turn.
The Polar Bears finished the regular season 71-8 overall, second in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
