NCPA chapter receives Dennis Ludwig Memorial Scholarship

The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) received the Dennis Ludwig Memorial Scholarship in Government Affairs for having the highest student attendance at the annual Congressional Pharmacy Summit in Washington, D.C. The award, given to help alleviate travel costs, was presented on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

This year, ONU brought 15 students to the conference, which is a platform for hundreds of community pharmacists to visit the nation’s capital to advocate for community pharmacies and their patients. ONU tied with Auburn University for this year’s honor.

Hardin County dairy beef feeder queen contest now open

The Hardin County Dairy Beef Feeder queen contest in open to all girls 14 years and older (as of Jan. 1), who are currently enrolled in 4-H or FFA with a dairy beef (feeder or steer) project. 

To be eligible to compete, a member must fill out the application, complete the essay and participate in an interview.  Applicants will also be given a test over breeds, body parts, and general questions that pertain to the project.

The winner will represent the dairy beef feeder youth and also be recognized at the crowning of the Hardin County Fair King and Queen Ceremony in front of the grandstand at the fair. 

St. Mark's Lutheran VBS June 6-10 is "farm-tastic!"

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 125 Johnson St., Ada, will hold its summer Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday, June 6-10 at the church. VBS takes place from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

This year's theme is "Barnyard Roundup." Registration is open to ages preschool through sixth grade

Ada Kiwanis members tour Pierstorf Pharmacy Museum

Bob McCurdy gave Ada Kiwanis Club members a guided tour of the Pierstorf Pharmacy Museum, located in the College of Pharmacy on the ONU campus on May 31.

The museum was donated by Dr. Clarence H. Pierstorf and Dr. and Mrs. Ervin W. Pierstorf and dedicated on Oct. 13, 1995.

The historical museum is located on the first floor of the Pierstorf Annex on the east side of the college.

Unique to the university and most other colleges of pharmacy in the nation, the museum includes memorabilia that reflects the profession's rich heritage.

And the trophy goes to the school staff

The annual Crosstown Softball Championships pitted the school staff against the safety services last week at the Ada diamonds.

Christiane Schmenk June 8 VIP Series speaker

Ohio Northern University graduate and board of trustee Christiane Schmenk  (class of 1981) is one of two featured speakers at the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance economic and community development briefing, at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, in the Hardin County courthouse Veteran Hall.

Joining her is Gregory Lestini. Both are on Bricker and Eckler Law Firm.

Schmeck was the previous Director of the Ohio Development Services Agency and a member of Governor Kasich's Cabinet, as well as the former mayor of Marysville.

The two will discuss economic and community development programs, policies and initiatives in Ohio.

June and July events in Ada promise to keep things lively

It's summer. Nothing happens in Ada in summer, right?

Wrong.

Darlene Bowers has gathered four pages of events that place in Ada during June and July.

Her list includes events in the community, school, Ohio Northern University, the Freed Center, the Inn at ONU, Ada Public Library plus an assortment of miscellaneous activities.

The Inn at ONU summer golfing packages entice golfers to "Stay and Play"

Attention golfers:

The Inn at ONU, in conjunction with several Ada area golf courses, introduces a Northwest Ohio Golf Stay and Play Package this summer.

“We’ll do the planning work, leaving you to enjoy playing golf,” said Tallene Eichelberger, general manager of The Inn at ONU.

Ada businesses assist in sponsoring Boots and Badges event on June 26

The American Red Cross of Hardin County will hold the 2nd Annual Boots and Badges to honor local first responders on Sunday, June 26, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Gormley Park in Forest.

Several Ada businesses help sponsor the event. They include: Ada Jr. Civic League, Quest Federal Credit Union, Everhart Trucking, Liberty National Bank and Hanson-Neely Funeral Home.  

The format for this year’s event will be a family fun day with rides, games, food and fun.

Boots and Badges is an annual fundraiser for the Hardin County Red Cross and celebrates Hardin County firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical responders. 

Here's accumulative results of 2015-16 NWC team competition

Bluffton High School is this year's Northwest Conference 2015-16 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence” winner for the second time with a number of high finishes in conference standings throughout the year. 

This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition.

The Pirates compiled a total of 75.5 points to defeat Spencerville (69.5) with Columbus Grove (66.0) finishing third.  Points are awarded and accumulated each year based on conference standings in all sports and the NWC scholastic bowl competition.
