ONU Aurora chapter of Mortar Board receives Silver Torch Award

The Aurora chapter of the National Mortar Board Society at Ohio Northern University was among the outstanding chapters to be honored for excellence at the 2014 Mortar Board National Conference, held Aug. 1-3 in Atlanta.

Ohio Northern was one of 67 schools to be presented The Silver Torch Award, which is given to chapters meeting chapter management standards while exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.

Ada police investigate hit and run on Oct. 2

Expect a windy afternoon in Ada today

AEP released the following weather alert today: Expect numerous showers with winds from the south at 15-25 mph today.

A strong low, with strong winds aloft, is currently located in central Illinois. As a cold front approaches AEP’s East Utilities today, numerous showers and thunder storms are expected to increase in intensity this afternoon.

Widespread high winds are not anticipated, but the stronger showers and storms could mix down gusts as high as 60 mph in some spots. Since the cold front is slow moving, it may take several hours to move through each district.

Ada CIC meets Oct. 15 at noon

The Ada Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) will meet at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Deans' Heritage room in ONU's McIntosh Center. Agendas, minutes and treasurer's report will be available at the meeting.

Here's Hardin County's Trick-or-Treat schedule

Hardin County communities announce their Halloween plans for the end of this month. Those plans follow:

Oct. 27: Ada will hold its costume parade at 6 p.m. with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. Buy Ada First will sponsor a soup cook off/contest and the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a pie contest both at the Ada Depot from 5-7 p.m.

Oct. 29: Forest will hold its Halloween parade at 6:30 p.m. with costume judging beginning at 6 p.m. Dunkirk’s parade will begin at 7 p.m.

Bryan Marshall given 10-year perfect attendance certificate by Kiwanis

The Ada Kiwanis Club met on  October 7  at Community Health Professionals, Ada. President John Berg called the meeting to order.

There were no guests present.

The birthday of member Brian Myers (October 9th) was noted in song.
   The wedding anniversary of Scott and Jamie Wills (October 2nd) was noted.  

Friday deadline for Hardin County Ag Fall of Fame nominations

Icon viewers have until Friday, Oct. 17, to nominate an area farmer to the 2014 Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame, accoridng to Mark Badertscher of the OSU Extension Office.

Ada chamber meets Oct. 15

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Community Health Professionals, according to Deb Curlis, chamber president.

The meeting is open to all persons interested in chamber activities.

Rhodes State College info night on Oct. 21

Rhodes State College, Lima, will present information on the college admissions process at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Kenton High School cafeteria.

Items covered are the college admissions process, financial aid, and the benefits of starting at Rhodes State College.

Representatives from Admissions and Financial Aid will be available to help schedule a campus visit, discover pathways to an affordable bachelor’s degree, and answer all of your college questions.
