The Cancer Cops Relay of Life Team (Hardin County Relay) is creating a bra chain and are asking for old bras of any size, shape or color, along with a $1 donation per bra.

The bras collected will be delivered to women and homeless shelters and for persons in need in Hardin and surrounding counties.

According Deb Howe of the Cancer Cops team, “The world record is 169,000 bras collected.” Persons interested in donating may contact Howe at 419-675-2462 or Tina Sams at 567-674-5907.

The deadline for collection is Friday, Dec. 12.

Ada's season of trick-or-treat begins Tuesday evening at Ohio Northern University McIntosh Activities Room.

With registration starting at 4:30 p.m., ONU's annual trick-or-treat evening takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Youth of all ages are encouraged to dress up and join the fun for candy and other activities.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend.

Oct. 23 – Cap and gown presentation at Apollo at 7:30 a..m.
Oct. 28 – 2-hour early dismissal for Teacher-In-Service
Oct. 31 – Cap and gown orders will be taken at Apollo 7:30 a.m.

A reminder for students who walk home: Walkers are not permitted to leave through the front entrances of the building. All walkers must exit through the south doors or at the end of the high school hallway.

Interested in discussing a good book with your friends. Depending upon your age, there are three book discussion group options at the Ada Public Library in November.

The Ada Kiwanis Club met on Tuesday October 14, at  noon at McIntosh Center, ONU, Ada. President John Berg called the meeting to order.

Ada Kiwanis Club holds its annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Ada High School cafeteria.

Tickets are $7 each with children 10 and under admitted free. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, bread sticks and beverages.

Jimmie I. Vandemark, 72, died on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at 8:44 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1942, in Bluffton, to Irvin E. and Edna Mae (Hassan) Vandemark and they preceded him in death.

He retired from Lima Memorial Hospital in 2002 after working 35 years in the Housekeeping Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ Disciples of Ada. Jimmie was a 1960 graduate of Ada High School. 

Surviving are three sisters: Joyce Long of Ada, Janet (Lauren) Eibling of Kenton, and JoAnn (Delbert) Henry of Ada; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Edison Long.

What activities were you involved in at Ada HS?
I played soccer and ran track.

Where do you live now and what are you doing?
I now live in Columbus near Polaris.  I quit my job as a server over the summer to pursue my handbag business full time.

Please tell us about LuxeFunction, your custom handbag business.
The handbag business I started is called Luxe Function.  I design everything in my line for function first and then for looks. Each aspect is as important as the other. 

The winner of Week 8 of The Icon Football Contest is Ruth Johnson.  Four contestants correctly picked all 10 games this week, but Ruth was declared the winner by correctly predicting Bluffton to win by 19 or more points.
