Brief on September 11 events, actions, effects

The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks are the focus of the Fall 2021 semester’s first Critical Questions, a series developed by student Fellows at Ohio Northern University’s Institute for Civics and Public Policy (ICAPP) that explores a wide range of relevant and timely topics commanding the public’s attention. The series’ purpose is to offer unbiased research and facts about emerging issues for people to consider.

Harvest & Herb Festival Saturday, Sept. 18

The 2021 Harvest & Herb Festival is Saturday, Sept. 18. Sponsored by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, the event runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with craft vendor booths on Ada’s Main Street from Highland to College Avenue.

Library distributes free at-home COVID tests

The Ada Public Library, 320 N Main, recieved 300 at home COVID-19 tests on September 8 for distribution to the public.

The tests are free. A smart phone is needed for use.

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has partnered with lthe Ohio Library Council and many member libraries, to make the tests available to anyone for any reason. Since February, the state has made nearly 160,000 tests available for libraries to provide to their communities.

September 22 Glow 5K Run/Walk

UPDATE: This event has been postponed due to storms forecast. It will be rescheduled.

Ohio Northern University will host a Glow 5K Run/Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The route will begin at ONU’s King Horn Sports Center and take participants along the Green Monster trail and the tundra through the middle of campus.

Glow sticks and other items will be provided for this twilight run/walk that seeks to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health services.

Kathleen Gerlach Carothers worked for Hardin Memorial Hospital

Kathleen Gerlach Carothers, age 95, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 7:38 AM at Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. 

She was born on August 27, 1926 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to the late T. J. and Myrtle (Wright) Holbrook.  Kathleen married Raymond Gerlach on September 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1992.  She later married Harold Carothers and he preceded her in death in 2003. 

Ada boys edged by Rams soccer

The visiting Ada boys soccer team lost 2-1 to Upper Sandusky in the nightcap of a girls/boys varsity North Central Ohio Soccer Association doubleheader Saturday night, September 11.

The Bulldog record fell to 2-3-2 and 0-2 in NCOSA play after the defeat. Meanwhile, US improved to 5-2 (2-0 NCOSA) with the victory. 

The Bulldogs play host to winless WBL foe Van Wert (0-6) Thursday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.
