Cenzie Yoder named D3hoops.com Second Team All-America

Junior Cenzie Yoder was named Second Team All-America by D3hoops.com.

This is the first time she has been named to the All-America team and is the third player in women's basketball history to achieve this honor.

Earlier this week, Yoder was named Second Team All-Greats Lakes Region by D3hoops.com.

This season, Yoder led the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg, in rebounding at 7.0 rpg and in shooting percentage at 52.1 percent.

In addition, Yoder ranked second on the team in assists (84) and steals (54) and was third on the team in blocks (11).

Cleora Skinner graduated from Lafayette-Jackson HS in 1933

Cleora Louise Skinner, 97, died at 5:35 p.m. March 14, 2013, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born Nov. 14, 1915 on the family farm in Jackson Township, Allen County, Ohio to the late Peter P. and Louise (Fett) Badertscher.  She was married to Forest Golden and later divorced.

She attended her first eight grades in a one-room school by the name of Peanut Center located on the corner of PeeVee and Sandusky roads. She graduated from Lafayette-Jackson High School in 1933 and Lima Business College in 1936.

During WWII she worked 13 years for Westinghouse Electric in Lima.

Writer's group forming at Ada Public Library

The Ada Public LIbrary is forming a writer's group. The group will meet on Tuesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

The group is open to adults who are writers or aspire to be writers and want to gain motivation, inspiration or share work and encourage each other.

Ada Kiwanis Club's pancake and sausage day March 23

The Ada Kiwanis Club's  61st annual Pancake and Sausage Day is  Saturday March 23, in the Ada High School Cafeteria.

Serving is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 each for all you can eat. Tickets are available at the door. Persons may eat in or carry-out.
 

ALICE Parent Information Meeting March 19

Ada schools will hold an ALICE Parent Informational Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the school cafeteria.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Department will present the ALICE (Alert, Lock down, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) school safety plan and its advantages to interested parents.

ONU women's basketball coach Division III Region 6 Coach of the Year

Ohio Northern women's basketball coach Michele Durand has been named 2013 RUSSELL ATHLETIC /WBCA NCAA Division III Region 6 Coach of the Year.

This is the second time Durand has earned this honor, also winning the award for the 2007-08 season.

She is now a finalist for the 2013 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA NCAA Division III Nation Coach of the Year Award, which will be announced on Monday, April 8 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Durand led the Polar Bears to their first OAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship since the 1987-88 season. She also guided Northern to a program record 27-2 mark, including a 25 game winning streak.
