Several area events on Hardin County schedule this week

Here are events in Hardin County this month from the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser to benefit 20th Annual Gene Autry Days
Enjoy Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, Salad, Beverage and Dessert for $8 on April 28 from 12:30PM to 2:30PM at the First United Methodist Church, 234 N. Main St., Kenton. Tickets are pre-sale only. ONU "Play Hardball Against ALS" moved to Sunday afternoon

Due to the weather and field conditions the ONU games to support ALS  and
Research have been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wander Field.

On April 21, the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears plays a home
double-header against Baldwin-Wallace. The Christian Pharmacy Fellowship
(CPFI) is working with "Play Hardball Against ALS (PHAALS)" to raise funds to support those with ALS and to support continued research.

Please try to stop out at the game(s). Sponsors are asking for a $1 donation.
April 20th (Saturday) 1 and 4 p.m., at ONU Wander Field home of the ONU baseball team.

Mars Exploration Program chief engineers ONU commencement speaker

Ohio Northern University has announced that Robert Manning, Mars Exploration Program chief engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsions Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., will be the guest speaker at ONU’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m.

Since 2004, Manning has been responsible for ensuring the success of current and future missions to Mars. In early 2008, he was named the chief engineer for the Mars Science Laboratory mission that successfully landed the rover Curiosity on the Martian surface in
August 2012.

Men's tennis remains perfect in OAC play with 9-0 victory against Wilmington

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team remained undefeated in OAC play with a 9-0 win over Wilmington on Tuesday evening at Five Seasons Club.

The Polar Bears, who have now won 10 straight matches, move to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in OAC play, while Quakers fall to 1-6, 0-5.

Northern swept all three doubles courts by 8-0 score.

Senior Joey Frank and Junior Do Thai won at No. 1 doubles, freshman John Mostowy and junior Blake Troller were victorious at No. 2 doubles and senior Mike King and sophomore Sam Prewitt won at the No. 3 doubles spot.

Freshman Anne Dreher hits pair of home runs as softball splits OAC double header with Wilmington

Freshman Anne Dreher ripped a pair of home runs to lead Ohio Northern to a split with Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header Thursday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.

WC won the opener 5-3 and ONU took the nightcap 9-3.

The Polar Bears move to 8-10 overall and 7-5 in OAC action, while the Quakers move to 19-9, 5-7.

Dreher hit two solo home runs, her third and fourth of the season, in Game 2 as ONU salvaged the split and remained in fourth place in the OAC.

Northern sent 10 batters to the plate in a 6-run second inning to take a 6-2 lead.

Reed Allen leads baseball in OAC double header sweep at Wilmington

Freshman Reed Allen went 4-for-7 on the day to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a double header sweep of Wilmington on Thursday afternoon at Tewksbury-Delaney Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 14-15 and 5-7 in OAC play, while the Quakers drop to 4-25, 1-11.

ONU captured Game 1 11-4 and won Game 2 15-4.

Allen scored four times and also drove in three runners.

In the first game, Allen led off with a single and moved to second on a walk by freshman Grant Wilson.

After an out, sophomore Dan Belliveau singled, scoring Allen and giving ONU a 1-0 advantage.
