Ada school board holds special meeting April 19

The Ada Exempted Village Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. for the purposes of:

1) an executive session to discuss employment and compensation of public employees and negotiations for public employees,
2) accept an employee's resignation,
3) discuss the May 7 levy and cost savings measures for 2013-14, and
4) discuss Board policy revisions."  
 

Chamber plans April 27 spring event

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, meeting earlier this week, announced plans for its first-ever "Spring Event." The family-oriented day is from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at the War Memorial Park. Click here for more details.

You are invited! Ada Chamber holds first-ever spring event Saturday in Ada Park

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its first-ever spring event from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 27, in Ada's War Memorial Park, according to Deb Curlis, chamber president.

All events of the day are free and open to the public.

Activities include:
• Kite demonstrations and kite making
• 4-H petting zoo
• Rhythm showcase
• Sunflower seed planting
• Face painting
• Zanesfield Petanque Club demonstration
• Gardening tips
• Tree Commission tree planting.

 

Ada's Don Castle recognized as American Red Cross Hardin County volunteer of the year

Don Castle of Ada was recognized as the American Red Cross Hardin County Volunteer of the Year during the county's April 10 recognition luncheon.

A board member, he is active in helping with special events, garnering financial support from the community whether it be for the annual pancake breakfast or golf outing.

Several other Hardin County individuals and groups were also recognized. The Hardin County Clara Barton Award was presented to Madelyn Lowery of Kenton. Lowery is a long-time board member. She has been the chapter’s liaison with United Way for several years and helps at the Day of Caring Blood Drive with United Way in July. 

Ada School Superintendent: "The need for this levy is real"

Three levies face Ada voters on May 7:

• Proposed Ada school income tax
• Proposed (replacement) Liberty Township fire
• Proposed bond issues and tax levy (additional) Apollo Career Center

This is the first of a three-part series on those levies. This focus is the Ada school levy. An attachment at the bottom of this story has additional information. 

Ada school district voters will decide the fate of a proposed new three-quarter percent income tax levy on May 7.
