ONU to host combating cyber crime seminar with Rep. Bob Latta on May 31

Rep. Bob Latta will conduct a seminar, in conjunction with the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division and titled  “Combating Cyber Crime: How to Protect Your Identity and Business Online,” in Ohio Northern University’s Dicke Forum on Friday, May 31, at 9 a.m.

The seminar, free and open to the public, is for business owners, government officials and individuals who are looking to learn more about cyber crime and ways to best protect themselves online. Cybersecurity affects anyone and everyone, from individuals to the government, and poses serious threats to the nation’s infrastructure, particularly the economy.

For the 130th time, students graduated from Ada High School. The 2013 commencement was Sunday. Here are graduates-to-be waiting for the commencement processional. Watch for four videos. 

Steven P. Essinger, 1953 - 2013

Steven P. Essinger, age 61, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 11:53 p.m. at his residence in Alger.

He was born on March 15, 1952 in Kenton to Paul G. and Wilma A. (Williams) Essinger, his father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Arlington. He married Saundra A. Biederman on August 25, 1979 in Kenton and she survives in Alger.

Steven was an Associate at the Honda Manufacturing, East Liberty Plant. He attended Victory Chapel of Praise, Alger. He was a 1970 graduate of Hardin Northern High School.

School's out for summer

Nicolas Kamatali is ready for summer. The fifth grader-turning sixth grader was captured on camera as he walked out the front door of the Ada schools as school was let out for the summer.

Michael Simmons qualifies for finals of 3,000-meter steeplechase at NCAA III Championships

Senior Michael Simmons finished fifth in his heat to qualify for the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday night at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The top five from each heat, plus the next four best times advanced to the finals, which will be run on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. (EST).

"Michael handled his first experience at the championships extremely well," said head coach Jason Maus. "He ran a very clean and smart race and made his moves when he needed to put himself in a comfortable position."

Simmons crossed the finish line in 9:06.96.
