ONU to host combating cyber crime seminar with Rep. Bob Latta on May 31

Rep. Bob Latta will conduct a seminar, in conjunction with the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division and titled  “Combating Cyber Crime: How to Protect Your Identity and Business Online,” in Ohio Northern University’s Dicke Forum on Friday, May 31, at 9 a.m.

The seminar, free and open to the public, is for business owners, government officials and individuals who are looking to learn more about cyber crime and ways to best protect themselves online. Cybersecurity affects anyone and everyone, from individuals to the government, and poses serious threats to the nation’s infrastructure, particularly the economy.

The seminar will feature presentations with practical information and tips from the Cleveland FBI Cyber Action Team as well as Loren Wagner, an adjunct senior lecturer at the University of Findlay who teaches upper-level courses in information assurance.

“Cyber crimes pose a serious threat to businesses, large and small, as well as their employees and customers. The FBI estimates that there are more than one million victims of cyber crime every day,” said Latta. “It is important that individuals and business owners in northwest and west central Ohio are informed and prepared to protect themselves against cyber attacks.”

Latta is currently serving his fourth term in the United States House of Representatives following his re-election in 2012. Latta serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has wide jurisdiction on legislative matters, including energy policy, telecommunications, food and drug safety, public health research, and interstate and foreign commerce. He is a member of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, where he was selected to serve as vice chair, as well as a member of the Subcommittees on Energy and Power, and Environment and the Economy. In addition, Latta serves as an assistant majority whip, co-chair of the Congressional Sportsman Caucus, and the co-chair of the Republican New Media Caucus.
