Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn flavor of the month: "Birthday Cake"

Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn’s flavor of the month is “Birthday Cake Popcorn,” according to Peter Suter.

“Last June we rolled out this new creation for Shirley’s birthday party and some customers liked it so much they’ve been asking for it all year. We’ve named it our June flavor of the month,” he said.

The flavor starts with smooth, sweet vanilla popcorn coated with a rich white chocolate and topped off with birthday sprinkles.

Shirley’s is located at 117 S. Main St., Bluffton, and is an Icon advertiser.

Hardin County May 4-H newsletter posted on Icon

The Ada Icon now has the May Hardin County 4-H newsletter posted for Icon viewers. It is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

It includes several important calendar dates related to the Hardin County Fair plus other significant 4-H news.

Rotary Club has chicken barbecue tickets on sale for June 14

The Ada Rotary Club is selling tickets for a Back Yard Bird BBQ chicken barbecue held in conjunction with the first “Music on Main,” planned for Friday, June 14.

The barbecue serving is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and pickups are available at Hays Insurance drive-through 202 S. Main St.

Tickets are $8 each and include one-half chicken, cole slaw and beans. Tickets are available from any Rotarian or from Rich Meininger, 419-634-2642, or Gary Hull, 419-234-4632.

Proceeds from the dinner go toward Rotary scholarship funds at Ada High School, dictionaries for area elementary students  and other Ada community projects.

ONU Child Development Center receives state quality award

The Ohio Northern University Child Development Center has received a Three-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Bureau of Child Care and Development, the state agency responsible for licensing and promoting high standards among Ohio’s early care and education programs.

ONU’s Child Development Center was recognized for its excellence and ongoing commitment to children.

Richland Manor celebrates the 1940s

In honor of the Memorial Day holiday, the residents of Richland Manor enjoyed a week’s worth of festivities and an evening full patriotism in late May. This “USO Dinner” was planned specially for the campus residents and featured a menu that contained buffet cuisine similar to what one could find in an Army canteen.

The chef-prepared menu included appetizers and assorted entrées served buffet-style.

The week leading up to the dinner featured special programming, activities and trivia that tied in to the USO theme, including: united we stand bingo, heroes trivia, and a patriotic baking class.
