Girls' tennis may be the next new sport at Ada High School

A new sport may be coming to Ada High School.

An informal meeting for Ada High School students interested in playing on a newly formed Ada HS girls’ tennis team is planned on Wednesday, July 17.

The meeting is also for parents and guardians and takes place at 7:30 p.m. a the Ada Park 4-H Shelter House.

Dr. Kenneth Wildman was professor at ONU for 28 years

Dr. Kenneth N. Wildman, 71, died on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 12:20 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Philip and Sophie (Rucklis) Wildman and they preceded him in death. On Jan. 3, 1963 he married Penelope B. "Penny" Brownell and she survives in Ada.

Dr. Wildman was a Professor and Department Chairman of Psychology and Sociology at Ohio Northern University for 28 years. He was a licensed psychologist who did arbitration and mediation. He was a boxing judge.

Josephine Willeke, lifelong Ada resident was an Ada HS and ONU graduate

Josephine N. (Rayl) Willeke, 86, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 6:31 am at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1926 in Ada, to Charles I. and Kathryn C. (Businger) Rayl and they preceded her in death. On March 30, 1946, she married Robert E. Willeke and he died on Dec. 17, 2001.

She taught school at Arlington for 13 years and was an elementary principal for 12 years also at Arlington. She was a 1944 graduate of Ada High School, a 1965 graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada, and a 1974 graduate of Bowling Green University.

Ada Library has Hardin Beautification Award entry forms

The Keep Hardin County Beautiful Commission is sponsoring a monthly Beautification Award Program this summer.

Categories are:
• Farm/Business,
• Residential and
• Non-Profit.

Deadline for the August awards is July 16. Forms are available at the Ada Library or by calling 419-674-2216. Winners will be honored at the Annual Keep Hardin County Beautiful Banquet in the fall.

Hardin County Family YMCA Youth Triathlon July 27

A youth triathlon for athletes 7 to 14 years old is planned for Saturday, July 27, in Kenton  beginning at 8 a.m. 

Participants 10 years old and younger will compete in a 100 yd swim, 5K bike, 1/2 mile run,

Participants 11-14 will compete in a 200yd swim, 10K bike and 1 mile run.

Cost is $20 for YMCA members and $30 for Non-Members, all proceeds will benefit the HCFY Sea Dragon Swim Team. For more information contact Chris Kalla, Program Director at 419.673.6131.
