See you at the park on Saturday!

Circle Saturday on your calendar.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's second annual Spring Fling takes place Saturday, May 3, and it includes lots of family-oriented activities.

The fling, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. takes place at the War Memorial Park. In the event of bad weather, it will be cancelled with no rain date.

Here's what's on the schedule:
• Horse and carriage rides
• Face painting
• Ada Barnyard Farmers 4-H Club animal exhibit
• Ada Tree Commission tree planting
• Food

While most track meets are weekend events involving many teams, the Icon watched a tri-meet involving Ada Bulldogs, Bluffton Pirates and Fort Jennings Muskies on April 29 at Bluffton University.

The meet enabled many track members to compete. Watch the purple and gold in action by opening the photo essay attachment at the bottom of this story.

Just having fun

They're having fun at the ONU Child Development Center. School is almost over for the year. Here's a snap shot taken during a recent playtime.

Check out Saturn at the ONU Observatory Friday night - it's closer than you think

Icon viewers are invited to the ONU Observatory on Friday, May 2, for the event called "Saturn near opposition." The event, open to the public is from 9 to 11 p.m.

Saturn actually reaches opposition on May 10, but this event takes place  while the students are still on campus. During opposition, Saturn is optimally positioned for viewing: it is at its closest to the Earth and rises just as the Sun sets.

Ada HS prom theme "Black Tie Affair" Saturday night

It's prom weekend at Ada High School.

This year's prom theme is "Black Tie Affair" (all black and white with red accents)," Alexis Amburgey, junior class president to the Icon.

Prom is Saturday, May 3, in the school 1986 gym -  the old junior high gym across from the central office.

Amburgey said that the Grand March starts at 7 p.m.

An "after the prom" event takes place at Norade Lanes from midnight until 2 a.m. The event   is a beach theme with bowing, karaoke, wii games, board games, food and lots of prizes.

Ohio Northern University competes at SAE Aero Design East Competition

The Ohio Northern University student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) placed 16th at the SAE Aero Design East Competition in Cummings, Ga., from April 11-14. Forty-two teams participated in the weekend competition, including national championship teams from Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico and Poland.

The ONU airplane, dubbed “Northern Comfort,” was designed and built entirely by students. The flight goal of the competition was to successfully lift and fly the maximum weight possible in the airplane while adhering to certain flight-mission requirements.
