Artists in the making

Ada has lots of budding artists. Here are examples of Ada first graders who have studied the art of Wassily Kandinsky who created "Circles." 

Dorothy Sue Huff 1944-2014

Dorothy Sue Huff, 70, died at 10:44 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at the Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1944, in Carver, Kentucky, to Leander and Laura (Watkins) Rowe and they are both deceased.

She was first married to William Douglas Burris and he survives in Harrod, Ohio. She married William H. Huff on Nov. 21, 1992 and he died May 19, 2013.

Mrs. Huff was a homemaker. She was formerly involved in the Alger Memorial Day Committee and was a social member of the Ada VFW Post #9381.

Oscar J. Mifsud elected as chair of the ONU Board of Trustees

The Ohio Northern University Board of Trustees has elected Oscar J. Mifsud as chair of the ONU Board of Trustees for a two-year term, and Daniel Walker was retained as vice chair of the board for a two-year term at its October meeting.

ONU President Daniel DiBiasio said, “Oscar Mifsud is the perfect fit to lead the Ohio Northern Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Judy, have made life-long commitments to the University and have shown this with their leadership, numerous contributions and endless support for ONU.”

Jean Van Atta was co-owner of Hal and Jean's Restaurant, Ada

I. Jean Van Atta, age 90, died at 10:25 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio.

She was born on May 14, 1924, in Ada, Ohio to Floyd D. and Anna Ethel (Pugh) Crowe and they are both deceased. She married Harold F. “Hal” Van Atta on Dec. 20, 1942, and he died Aug. 1, 2006.

Mrs. Van Atta was co-owner and co-operator with her husband, Harold, of Hal & Jean’s Restaurant of Ada, and also owners and operators of 302 Carry-Out of Ada. She was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church of Ada.

Over 2,400 visitors expected for music feast

The Ada Music Boosters 37th annual Music Feast is Saturday, Nov. 8.

This year’s program features high school students from 14 visiting show choirs from Ohio and Indiana. The Ada Varsity Singers, under the direction of Abigail Glenn, Vocal Music Director, and Jonathan Lischak, Director of Instrumental and co-director, will provide an exhibition performance as the host school for this day-long event.
