It's obvous that Santa Claus visited Ada on Christmas Eve. He left some of his hats on Lima Avenue fire hydrants. Who put them there? Who knows! Thanks to Connie Fleming for sending the Icon this photo.

Suddenly the spot light shines on railroad line through Ada

Here's a story that will interest all Ada railfans. It is reposted from The Ohio Association of Railroad Passengers (dba All Aboard Ohio). Click here for more information about All Aboard Ohio.

For advocates of rail transportation, one of the most enjoyable developments is to see a railroad line come back to life.

That’s been happening recently to the 270-mile Fort Wayne Line between Tolleston (Gary), Ind., and Crestline, Ohio, via Ft. Wayne, Lima - AND ADA - and Bucyrus. This was one of America’s premier passenger rail lines, linking Chicago and East Coast.

DJ Santa?

The after-hour security cameras at the Ohio Northern University radio station caught Santa in the act. Actually this is a photo from the WONB Facebook page.

Merry Christmas and happy birthday to Madison Wright

By Torie Wright, Ada Icon intern

My family celebrated an extra special Christmas in 2001: We welcomed my cousin Madison to the world that day. I was 9 years old.

I remember very clearly just how excited I was, and then the disappointment when I wasn’t allowed to hold her in the hospital. My uncle did let me burp her, though.

Madison is now an Ada seventh grader, a participant in soccer, volleyball, and winter guard, and will celebrate her 13th Christmas birthday this year.

She shared some insight with me as to what it’s like to have a birthday fall on Christmas:

Several Ada winners in 25 Days of Christmas Buy Local Contest

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance announced the winners of the Buy Local First Holiday Contest, which ran from Nov. 24 - Dec. 18.

The Alliance partnered with the Buy Ada First Committee and 32 local businesses on the event. There were over $1,600 in prizes given away thanks to the participating businesses.

The 25 Days of Christmas Buy Local Contest was a way to educate the community on the benefits of buying local and to encourage shoppers to buy local this holiday season.

The $500 Grand Prize winner was Jill Reiter, the $200 winner was Holly Ulrich, and the $100 winner was Craig Crouse.

New and improve village website live any day now

Everything you need to know about the Village of Ada is on the new and improved village website, which should be live by the end of this month – or any day now.

For a look at the site go to: wp.adaoh.org.

You’ll find everything from Boards, Departments, Documents, Pay Water Bill, Notices and a way to contact the village on the site.

The site is more robust, easier to manage and update and has a better layout than the site it replaces. Upcoming events are still on the upper left of the content area, and below that is a calendar that responds to hovering the cursor over bold dates.
