Ohio Northern University to hold lecture on Islamic tolerance

The Ohio Northern University Office of International Services presents speaker Zohra Sarwari in the McIntosh Ballroom on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. Sarwari’s speech is titled “No, I Am Not a Terrorist.”

The lecture, free and open to the public, will give members of the community the opportunity to learn a bit more about Islam, its relationship with terrorism, and diversity through the perspective of an Orthodox Muslim woman.

The Ada Public Library would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the FRIENDS of the Ada Public Library for their support in purchasing a new storytime rug for our Meeting Room. The rug was unveiled and enjoyed by our families this morning, with many children excited as to what objects or letters they were sitting on!

 

Rodney Hollon was a 1972 Upper Scioto Valley HS grad

Rodney L. Hollon, 61, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at 12:05 a.m.at his residence in Alger.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1954, in Lima, Ohio to James A. and Eva Jean (Hall) Hollon and they preceded him in death. Rodney was previously married to Debbie Hollon and she survives in Belle Center, Ohio.

He retired from Rockwell International in 2009 after working for 35 years as a machinist. He was attending the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger. He was a 1972 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School. Rodney was an avid dirt track fan and his son’s crew chief for 12 years. A special thanks to the Ada Community Health Professionals for their care of Rodney.

Observations, insights and sighting: Trust your car to the man with the star

It pays to shop around for gas. On Saturday, Feb. 28, the price of gas at several stations on the east side of Lima was $2.09 while on the west side it was $2.49---40 cents per gallon difference in the same city. That's $8 a fillup. Used to be gas companies tried to get loyal customers to stick with their brand, nowadays drivers seek out the best price. Remember the jingle: Texaco, you can trust your car to the man who wears the star?

Grant McBride named second team all-NWC; Willeke, Sautter honorable mention

Ada's Grant McBride, a senior, was named to the second team all-Northwest Conference in boys' basketball. Two Bulldog teammates were named honorable mention.

Columbus Grove senior Jace Darbyshire was chosen as the 2014-15 NWC Player of The Year by Northwest Conference boys’ basketball coaches at the annual selection meeting in late February. Darbyshire received 113 total points to edge out Connor Lautzenheiser (CV) and Trey Smith (DJ) in the coaches’ voting.

Darbyshire averaged 21.0 points per game along with 3.4 assists for the Bulldogs, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line this year.
