Celebrate the Spring Equinox and a new moon on Friday

What a way to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The ONU Observatory will be open to the public from 9 - 11 p.m. on Friday, March 20, to celebrate the Spring Equinox and a new moon, according to Dr. Jason Pinkney, manger of the observatory.

"The spring, or vernal equinox is the start of spring and it is marked by the northward passage of the Sun across the celestial equator," said Pinkney. "There also happens to be a total solar eclipse on this day, but it will not be visible from the United States."

Art at the depot

Colleen Scott teaches art at the Ada Railroad Park on Sunday afternoon. About 25 children and adults, mostly adults, learned how to make a cityscape with acrylics. Colleen, from Columbus, will have a session in June to paint flowers. Instruction and materials cost $35 for a two-hour session. For more details about the next class, call her at 937-269-2900. She is a graduate of Columbus Art and Design and has shown her work in Columbus and Cincinnati. Several Ada Boy Scouts recognized at Court of Honor

Ada Boy Scout Troop 124 recently held a court of honor to recognize those who have achieved their goals in the past few months.

They met at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Ada. Korwin Kurtz, Senior Patrol Leader, served as the Master of Ceremony. Bugler, Theo Hardesty called Assembly on his bugle then began the flag ceremony with a Call to Colors. 

Patrol Leader, James Lee, led the troop in the Pledge of Allegiance with Donald Waters guiding them through the Boy Scout Oath.

Observations, insights and sighting: Ready to plant peas on March 17?

In the mood to plant?

Laurie Laird, owner of New Leaf Garden Center, says the saying goes: plant peas on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) and potatoes on Good Friday (April 3). "I don't see that happening this year since the ground is so frozen." It was 6 degrees on March 6...more like mid-Janurary.

This is an active community. Here are several upcoming events that may be of interest to you. Check them out.

• A Lupus support group will meet at 7 pm on Monday, March 16, at Crossroads Church of God on SR 309 west of Ada. For more information call 440-717-0183.

• The Compassionate Friends will meet at 7 pm on Tuesday, March 17, at First Assembly of God Church at SR 81 and I-75. This is a support group for parents who have lost a child. The organization is for parents grieving the death of a child, whether the death was recent or not.
