ONU shows strong showing in Jessup Competition

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Jessup team advanced to the semifinals of the qualifying rounds of the 2015 Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition but fell short of its goal of qualifying for the international rounds.

University presents lecture on ‘Slavery in the Heart of Abolitionist Country” March 26

The Ohio Northern University Department of History, Politics and Justice presents a lecture on “Slavery in the Heart of Abolitionist Country: Rethinking the History of Slavery in New England” by Jared Hardesty in the Dicke Forum in the Dicke Building on Thursday, March 26, at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

A busy chamber morning

Annetta Shirk, director of the Hardin County Chamber and chamber tourism, provided an update to Ada chamber members on Hardin County activities on March 18. Meanwhile, the Ada chamber has lots of events planned this spring. Watch the Icon for those announcements.

ONU's Relay for Life - an interesting way to spend a Friday night in Ada

Icon viewers are in for 12 hours of Disney fun all for a good cause starting Friday evening.

The 12-hour Ohio Northern University's Relay for Life takes place in the King Horn Field House from 6 p.m., Friday, March 20, to 6 a.m., Saturday, March 21.

The theme of this year's Relay is "Disney." There is a $10 charge enter Relay, for persons not on a team. That admission charge allows you to participate in all of the events and have lots of things to eat.

According to Nicole Michalek, coordinator of the Relay: "With the 22 teams that we have sign up, ONU has raised $10,416 out of our $17,000 goal."

15 minutes with Kenny Wolke - he takes care of Ada's largest lawn, just for starters

Kenny Wolke's job has grown in acreage and usage since he became manager of War Memorial Park 18 years ago.

How many acres are involved in the park?
The park had 40 acres in 1996, now there are 68 acres.

What does your job entail?
Taking care of the equipment, buildings, and grounds, and scheduling the use of the various facilities. There is electrical, plumbing, mechanical work to do...a little bit of everything.

Preschool screens set in April

Midwest Regional Educational Service Center has scheduled three preschool screens in April. The Center provides preschool services for the Ada, Hardin Northern, Ridgemont and Upper Scioto Valley school districts.

Parents and caregivers with children ages 3 to 5 by Aug. 1, 2015, should call Midwest Regional ESC for an appointment.

Registration and screens are planned at the following locations:
• Upper Scioto Valley, Monday, April 13
• Hardin Northern, Tuesday, April 14
• Ridgemont, Wednesday, April 15
