ONU's Relay for Life - an interesting way to spend a Friday night in Ada

Icon viewers are in for 12 hours of Disney fun all for a good cause starting Friday evening.

The 12-hour Ohio Northern University's Relay for Life takes place in the King Horn Field House from 6 p.m., Friday, March 20, to 6 a.m., Saturday, March 21.

The theme of this year's Relay is "Disney." There is a $10 charge enter Relay, for persons not on a team. That admission charge allows you to participate in all of the events and have lots of things to eat.

According to Nicole Michalek, coordinator of the Relay: "With the 22 teams that we have sign up, ONU has raised $10,416 out of our $17,000 goal."

She adds that the schedule is full of events.

She continues: "Things start at 6 p.m. with an Opening Ceremony. That's where we light out Relay Flame, have the Ada VFW present the flag and walk the track, and introduce our Honorary Survivers, John Gillham and Victoria Gillham. Then to kick off Relay, we have a Team Lap, A Survivership Reception, and Eric Belanger's band at 6:30 p.m. 

Some of the evening's additional highlights follow: 
• Date Auction at 7 p.m. 
• Mr. and Mrs, Relay competition at 8:15 p.m. 
• ONU Improv: Fearless Shenanigans at 8:30 p.m. and 2am. 
• Knockout and cornhole tournaments at  7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. 
• Phi Mu Alpha, performs at 9:15 p.m., and 

 • Luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m.

"Our "Midnight Madness" is at 11 p.m. and there will be a musical chairs competition to get us back in the mood is Relay Idol (karaoke) at 11:30 p.m., Disney Trivia at 1 a.m., and Bingo at 1:45 a.m.," she added.

Then it quiets down for a while for people to take a rest before Zumba at 4 a.m. to wake everyone up again At 5:15 a.m. is the Closing Ceremony and the end of Relay for Life 2015.
