International Law Society hosts Cambodian art auction

The ONU International Law Society will have a silent auction featuring 10 pieces of Cambodian art in various sizes.

All proceeds will go to Phare Ponleu Selpak, a school in Cambodia that educates Cambodian street children with an emphasis on art.

The art will be on exhibit in the law buildings from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 19. The auction ends Friday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m.

William "Chub" McKinley was a 1956 graduate of McGuffey High School

William Eugene McKinley, known by most as "Chub," 76, died on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015.

Chub was born on Dec. 9, 1938, to the late William Irvin and Mary Evon (Woolley) McKinley in Kenton, Ohio. He married Ann Kaylor and shared his life with her for 56 wonderful years and she survives in Ada.

He graduated from McGuffey High School in 1956. Chub retired from tool making at Ford Motor Company after 36 years. Chub was a member of County Line Church of the Brethren for 31 years, where he served as a Deacon. 

Doug Brown was a former Ada business owner

E. Douglas Brown, 72, died at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at 4:22 a.m..

Doug was born on Nov. 14, 1942, in Bonanza, Kentucky, to Estel and Clara (Baldridge) Brown who preceded him in death. On Dec. 17, 1960, he married Joyce Baker and she survives in Ada.

Doug retired from Star Gas in Kenton, where he was a manager. He formerly owned several local businesses, including the former J&M Dairy Dip and Norada Lanes Bowling Alley of Ada.

He was a member of the Only Believe Ministries in Botkins. 

Music Boosters soliciting sponsors for Nov. 7 Music Feast

The Ada Music Boosters need your assistance.

The Boosters are contacting area businesses asking for support for program ad sales and trophy sponsorship opportunities for the 38th Annual Ada Music Feast Show Choir Invitational Competition.

The event is held at Ada High School on Saturday, Nov. 7. 

Ad sales in full-page 8.5 x 11-inch size, as well as, one-eighth, one-quarter and one-half page ads are currently available. Trophy sponsorships for both preliminary and finals competition at the day-long event are also available.

Iconclast Bakery: Easy Italian pork chop dinner

Easy Italian Pork Chop Dinner
Recipe from Linda Ferguson in the Ada sesquicentennial cookbook, 2002

4 large pork loin chops
1/4 c. Italian salad dressing, plus 2 T.
2 T. cooking oil
4 medium potatoes - peeled and thinly sliced
1 small onion - sliced

Marinate pork chops in 1/4 c. Italian dressing for 3 hours, turning occasionally. Remove the marinade and brown both sides in oil. 

Season with salt and pepper. Place in baking dish.

Layer potatoes and onions over chops. Drizzle with 2T. Italian dressing. Season again with salk and pepper.

Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1-1 1/4 hours or until done.

Meet Wilson, AHS mascot

It's no longer simply the Bulldog. Ada High School's mascot has a name and it's very appropriate. Meet "Wilson" the newly-named Ada High School mascot. The name was unveiled during halftime on Friday. Wilson has a special football from a company in Ada with the same name.
