Hot shooting Baldwin Wallace upsets ONU in conference tourney

The no. 10-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell to Baldwin Wallace Thursday evening 65-58 in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals hosted at the ONU Sports Center.

The Yellow Jackets (17-10 overall) advance to Saturday's Finals at Mount Union.

The Polar Bears fall to 22-4 overall on the season and will await the NCAA selection show Monday at 2:30 pm for a chance at an at large bid.

21 days and counting

Certified!

Ada Police Sgt. Matt Purdy and K9 Jaeger  attained Ohio Peace Officer K9 Team Certification on Feb. 22.

Jaeger was initially certified in October of 2015 and after a change in handlers, Jaeger and his new handler attended two weeks of training together, culminating in their state certification.

According to Roger Bice, Ada's trainer from Shawnee Run Kennels, Jaeger is one of the finest narcotics K9 that he has observed in recent times.

Jaeger is trained in narcotics detection, socialization, handler protection, tracking, area and building searches and criminal apprehension.

Sautter, Willeke named all-NWC

Two Ada High School boys' basketball players were named to all-Northwest Conference teams, announced earlier this week.

The players are:
• Brayden Sautter, senior
• Blake Willeke, senior

Ada's regular season in the NWC  was 2-6 and the team was 12-10 overall. For a list of all NWC players honored open the attachment to this story.

Rich Bensman named ONU men's basketball coach following Kevin Byrne's resignation

Rich Bensman has been named the head men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern University, effective immediately.

He replaces Kevin Byrne, who resigned on Wednesday as head coach after four seasons as the helm.

Bensman has served as an assistant coach at Ohio Northern for the previous four years.

"We are excited to begin a new chapter of Ohio Northern men's basketball under the guidance of Rich Bensman," ONU director of athletics Tom Simmons said. "Rich has worked extremely hard as an assistant coach the past four seasons and we look forward to having him in the leadership role."
