RecycleMania comes to Ohio Northern University

Ohio Northern University has joined RecycleMania, the premier collegiate recycling competition managed by Keep America Beautiful, to see who will claim the championship in the fight to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost the most on campuses across the country.

RecycleMania will run for eight weeks alongside the collegiate basketball season.

Hundreds of participating colleges and universities are competing in several categories based on the weight of recycling, food organics and waste reduction collected.

Each week, schools report their data and use updated rankings to rally students and staff with educational activities, displays and other outreach efforts.

Betty Moore 1935-2016

Betty L. Moore,  81, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at 7:46 p.m. at Lima Rehab and Nursing Center, Lima.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1935, in Martin, Kentucky, to John N. and Lucinda (Ratliff) Patton who preceded her in death. On Aug. 21, 1953, she married Columbus Moore and he survives in Harrod.

Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church of Belle Center.

Ada Public Library inviting architects and engineers for proposed renovation designs

The Ada Public Library Board of Directors is requesting qualifications (RFQ) from qualified architects and engineers for the Proposed Renovation and Additions to the Ada Public Library.

Project will include the minor renovations of the existing building and construction of a new 3,000 square-feet addition as well as site improvements.  Project costs including A/E services and professional fees are estimated at $900,000 to $1 million.

The selected A/E Team will be given a completed schematic design package detailing scope of project along with a probable cost estimation.

Three Bulldogs gain all-NWC girls' basketball honors

One Ada High School girls' basketball player, was named first team all-Northwest Conference, and two were named honorable mention as voting was recently completed by league coaches.

Rachel Wildman, senior, was named to the first team. Named honorable mention were Laye Wyss, junior, and Sidney Faine, senior.

Columbus Grove junior guard Jade Clement was selected as the 2015-16 NWC Player of the Year. Brian Schroeder, who led Columbus Grove (8-0) to the school’s second NWC girls basketball title  was selected as the NWC Coach of the Year.

ONU men wins 12th consecutive OAC swimming and diving championships

Sophomore Trevor Keriazes won the 200 breast in record-setting fashion to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team to its 12th consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships title on Saturday evening at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

The Polar Bears scored 843 points in the 20 events and won the team title by an 186-point margin.

Mount Union was second with 657 points, John Carroll was third with 559 points and Wilmington was fourth with 479 points.
