Tennis anyone? Ada youth love the summer sport

USTA Junior Team Tennis was the craze in Ada last week. Instruction and matches took place at the Ohio Northern University courts.

Ada freshman, Melina Woods, on area volleyball national championship team

Melina Woods, a freshman at Ada, and Shelby Alloway, a freshman at Hardin Northern, are on the Blackswamp 14-National Volleyball that recently won a national title.

The team from Tiffin placed first in the country at the 2014 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships held at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota. 

Woods and Alloway, along with their eight teammates, won an American bid at a USAV tournament in April, which allowed them to compete in the USAV Junior Championships in June.

Cellentani, Stromback ITA Scholar Athlete; women's tennis team named All-Academic Team

ONU Junior Kristin Cellentani and sophomore Taryn Stromback were named Scholar Athletes in women's tennis by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). This is the second consecutive season that both Cellentani and Stromback have earned this honor.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the academic school year and be enrolled at the school for at least two semesters.

Cellentani, a accounting major, has a career record of 90-28. This past season she posted a 36-6 record, including a 21-2 mark in doubles action.

Ada swim team finished third in WOAL championships

Don't mess with the Ada swim team. They finished the 2014 swim season with an impressive third place in the eight-team Western Ohio Aquatics League meet held in Kenton on Friday and Saturday.

Vote for ONU's Cody Lovejoy and Nathan Rosenbaum in Elite 89 Award contest

The NCAA has launched a contest that will allow fans to vote for their favorite Elite 89 Award winners from the 2013-14 academic school year.

Ohio Northern had two student-athletes win the prestigious award.

Junior wrestler Cody Lovejoy earned his second straight Elite 89 Award this past season.

He was named Capital One First Team Academic All-America and earned All-American honors at the NCAA III Wrestling Championships with a seventh place finish.

Also winning a award for ONU in cross country was junior Nathan Rosenbaum.

He earned First Team All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region honor, while being named First Team Capital One Academic All-America.
