ONU sends six athletes to NCAA DIII track nationals

The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field teams will be sending six student athletes to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Senior Kristine Wagner, juniors Lucas Shumate and Allie Gast, sophomores Matt Molinaro and Emily Richards, and freshman Maddy Reed will represent Ohio Northern in their respective events.

Wagner will be competing in the heptathlon for ONU after qualifying last weekend at the Gregory Invitational with a new school record of 4,399 points. She will be competing Thursday beginning at 11:00 am (CST).

Shumate will participate in the hammer throw after qualifying at the All-Ohio Championships with a distance of 187 feet 2 inches. He is set to compete on Saturday at 2:30 pm (CST).

Gast will be competing in the 100-meter hurdles after hitting an NCAA qualifying mark at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with a time of 14.42. She will run the 100-meter hurdles Friday at 4:30 pm (CST).

Molinaro will compete in the 800-meter run for the Polar Bears after running a season best time of 1:48.99 at the Keeler Track and Field meet. He will run the 800-meter run Friday at 5:45 pm (CST).

Richards will also compete in the 800-meter run after running an NCAA Division III leading time of 2:05.54 at the Jesse Owens Classic. She is set to compete in the 800-meter run Friday at 6:00 pm (CST).

Reed will make her first NCAA Championship appearance after qualifying in the pole vault at the Polar Bear Invitational with a season best height of 12 feet 6 inches. She will compete Thursday at 4:00 pm (CST).

The Championships are scheduled to begin Thursday at 11 am (CST) with the women's heptathlon.
