Ada girl kickers eliminated by Cougars

ASHLAND - The Ada girls soccer team ended its season with an 8-1 loss at powerhouse Ashland Crestview in Div. III sectional first round play Tuesday evening.

The defeat finished the Lady Bulldog season with a record of 3-13-1. Second-seeded AC improved to 15-1-1 with the victory.

The favored Lady Cougars advance to the sectional final round, where they will host 11th seed Willard Thursday, Oct. 17.

The 10th-seeded Bulldogs were able to hold potent AC scoreless for the first 20 minutes before the Cougars broke loose to build a 3-0 lead.

Lady Bulldog spikers knocked off by Arlington in sectionals

ARLINGTON - Visiting Ada won the first game but lost to Arlington in a close four-set Div. IV first round volleyball sectional battle Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs end their season with a 10-13 record after the tough 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24 defeat. Arlington improved to 10-13 with the win.

Junior Megan Light had a fine all-around match to lead Ada. She knocked down 20 kills, came up with 16 digs, had a season-high 11 blocks and served two aces.

Junior Miranda Wills hit nine kills, hustled up 18 digs and dealt a pair of aces.

Bulldogs head to Crestview on Friday

Ada is 2-2 on the road heading into its final away game this season

ADA - The injury-plagued Ada football team attempts to halt a two-game losing skid when it visits Crestview in week eight.

Last weekend, Crestview was outscored 34-12 in the final 20 minutes to lose 48-25 at home to league-leading Spencerville. The defeat dropped the Knights to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Having lost three of its last four games, Ada is 2-5 and 1-3 in NWC action, placing them in a tie for sixth in the eight-team league standings with Bluffton. The Knights are knotted with Paulding in fourth.

ONU senior gains OAC volleyball honors

Ohio Northern senior libero McKenna Hostetler (Plain City/Alder) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13.

Hostetler helped the No. 11-ranked Polar Bears to a 4-1 record last week.

She paced ONU with 116 digs and six aces in the week.

This marks the second time this season that Hostetler received the honor.

The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday with a 7 pm OAC match at Wilmington.

Ada youth wrestling sign-up tonight

Open to boys and girls K to grade 6

Ada Youth Wrestling Club signups start tonight.

The club’s first sign-up are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 16) in the Ada wrestling building. It’s in the brown building in front of the school bus garage.

According to John McClain, coach, “All experience levels from beginner to advances are welcome to participate. The club accepts boys and girls from Ada and all surrounding communities.”

The club is open to youth from Kindergarten through sixth grade. Two additional sign-up dates are:
• Sunday, Oct. 20, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, Oct. 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

ONU player receives OAC men’s soccer honor

Ohio Northern sophomore Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13.

Gundlach scored twice and added an assist as the Polar Bears (11-2-1 overall, 3-0-0 OAC) defeated Muskingum 8-0 on Saturday evening.

This marks the second time this season that an Ohio Northern player was named OAC Player of the Week, as sophomore Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was named Offensive Player of the week on Sept. 30 and sophomore John Lombardo (Solon) was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

Gundlach has six goals, one assist and 13 points this season.
