Polar Bear wrestlers 6th at Whitehill duals

The Ohio Northern wrestling team advanced finished sixth at the 16-team Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lamande Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (11-6 overall) finished with a 3-2 record.

Ohio Northern competed in the "5th-8th Place" bracket on Saturday, defeating Cortland State (N.Y.) 20-19 and falling to Springfield (Mass.) 19-16.

Against Cortland State Trailing 4-0 after the 125 bout, ONU won the next five matches to grab a 20-4 lead.

The Red Dragons (5-2) won the final four bouts, but even with a pin at heavyweight, could not overcome the Polar Bears' early lead.

Men notch win over Muskingum; women lose on last-second shot

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team notched an Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon, winning 72-66 inside the ONU Sports Center.

ONU improves to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the OAC while MU drops to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the OAC.

Sophomore Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) netted 17 points, including a clutch fadeaway jumper plus the foul to extend the ONU lead to 69-64 with 51 seconds remaining.

Freshman Landen Long (Mason) also scored 17 points for the Polar Bears.

Good McComb start buries Ada girls

After playing four games in 8 days, Ada (2-4 home) is idle until they host non-league foe LCC Thursday

McComb - Hot-shooting host McComb ran out to a big early lead and rolled to a 63-32 non-conference girls basketball win over Ada Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 31-9 after the first period and never recovered. Panther junior guard Malorie Schroeder poured in 14 of her game-high 23 points in the opening stanza to lead the early outburst.

The Bulldog girls fell to 5-9 overall with the defeat, while McComb improved to 6-4 with the victory.

Ada grapplers compete at Spartan Invite

LIMA - The Ada wrestling team finished 18th at the 19-team Lima Senior Spartan Invitational Saturday.

Mechanicsburg won the event with 297.5 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Monroe (190). The Bulldogs scored 41 points.

Ada placers by weight class division:
120: 
5th Colton Biederman. Junior Biederman went 3-2 with three pins and won his fifth-place match at 4:08.

Heavyweight:
6th Noah Arnett. Senior Arnett finished 2-2 on the day with a pair of pins, but lost in the fifth-place match by pin.

Rams hold off Bulldog boys

Senior wing Phil Coulson scored 20 points on the strength of five trifectas. Brandon Hull netted 23 points to give him 53 in two road games over the weekend

McGUFFEY - Visiting Ada lost a 58-52 non-league battle at traditional rival Upper Scioto Valley Saturday night in a non-league boys basketball contest.

USV led 17-10 after one period of play, and held a 28-20 edge at halftime. Ada pulled within 44-39 heading to the fourth period but could not completely close the gap.

Ada dropped to 5-8 overall with the tough loss. USV improved to 8-6 with their second close win over the Bulldogs in a 15-day span, both at McGuffey.

Ada boys nipped by Wildcats 59-57

Brandon Hull poured in a career-high 30 points to pace the Bulldogs

DELPHOS - Visiting Ada rallied from a 22-point deficit late only to lose 59-57 at Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference boys basketball battle Friday night.

Bulldog senior post Jake Rayl sank a field goal in the final second of play to pull Ada within 58-57. After the Bulldogs fouled with 0.4 left, DJ made the first free throw and missed the second to hang on for the win. 

Ada fell to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the NWC with the tough loss. DJ improved to 4-7 and 2-0 in the NWC with the victory.
