Bulldog boys season ends with sectional loss to Redskins

Playing in Coldwater, the Ada High School boys basketball team got off to a strong start but eventually lost 73-55 to St. Henry in Div. IV first round sectional play Tuesday night, February 22.

The Bulldogs led 20-19 after the first quarter, but fell behind 35-28 by halftime.

"We played well early," said Ada head coach Vince Halliday. "We scored easily but couldn't get stops. We gave up two easy layups on lobs, and a few too many second-chance points.

"In the second quarter they played a little more downhill and we had a hard time stopping the ball, got beat off the dribble.

Men's Lacrosse opens 2022 schedule with 13-4 victory at Alma (Mich.)

Eleven different players scored goals as the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team opened its 2022 season with a 13-4 victory at Alma (Mich.) on Saturday, Februarty 19 at Bahlke Field.

The Polar Bears (1-0 overall) got two goals each from junior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y. ) and sophomore Aiden Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) and one goal each from nine other players in the win.

Junior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) had a goal and two assists for a team-high three points on the day.

Northern scored five first period goals to lead 5-1 and took an 8-2 lead into intermission.

Lady Bulldog cager Sumner 2nd team All-NWC, Burkhart HM

Ada High School junior guard Courtney Sumner was voted second team All-Northwest Conference in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.

Sumner led Ada in scoring, three-pointers, and steals as the Bulldog girls finished 8-15 overall this season, and 0-8 in the NWC.

Sumner surpassed the 1,000-point barrier in Ada's 45-39 first round tournament loss to Parkway.

Ada sophomore point guard Olivia Burkhart was named honorable mention All-NWC. She was second on the team in scoring and was in the top two with Sumner in assists and steals.

Sophomore Alyvia Lindeman of Delphos Jefferson was named NWC Player of the Year.

Ada's Baumgartner, Oldfield advance to state swim meet

The Ada High School girls swim team qualified two members to the state meet with strong individual showings in the Div. II northwest district event Friday, February 17, at Bowling Green State University.

Ada freshman Lily Baumgartner finished second in the 100 butterfly with a personal-best time of 58.04 to make it to Canton.  

She finished second in the district 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 58.04. Baumgartner is seeded 13th amid the 24-girl field in the state 100 fly race.  

Bulldog junior Kaitlyn Bowden finished 19th in the 100 butterfly race.

Bulldog grappler Vieira 2nd in class at NWC championships

The youthful Ada wrestling team competed at the Northwest Conference championship meet hosted by Bluffton Friday evening. Featuring six freshmen wrestlers, the Bulldogs finished eighth at the eight-team event. 

Defending champion Allen East repeated again as champions, with Spencerville second and Columbus Grove third.

Ada freshman Liam Vieira went 3-1 at at 120 lbs. with two pins to finish second in his weight class. 

Freshman Aedyn Beckwith registered a 2-2 record with one pin at 126 lbs. to finish third.

Freshman Rowan West posted a 3-2 record with two pins to come in third in the 134 lbs. bracket.

Senior night draws biggest crowd of the season

Playing at home, the Ada High School boys basketball team started well and battled hard but fell 49-41 to Lincolnview in a Northwest Conference contest to end the regular season Friday, February 18.

On Bulldog senior night–playing before the biggest home crowd of the season–Ada missed 12 of its 20 free throw attempts to impede its own cause.

The Bulldogs led 14-13 after the first quarter, and trailed 24-22 at halftime. The Lancers edged ahead 38-31 after 24 minutes. Ada rallied within four points twice in the final period, but the Lancers put on a late 7-0 run to keep the Bulldogs at bay.
