Photo-story: Bulldog spring sports begin

Spring officially starts on Sunday, March 20 and high school spring sports are coming our way. Attached to this story is a series of photos by Traci McClain of the Ada High School softball scrimmage against Coldwater.

Girls varsity softball begins on March 28 at home vs. Hardin Northern.

Boys varsity tennis TBA.

Boys varsity baseball begins March 28 at home.

Boys and girls varsity track begins March 29 at home vs. Indian Lake, USV and North Union.

ONU softball takes two of three on final day in Florida

The Ohio Northern softball team posted a 2-1 record on a busy Friday, March 11, during the final day of its spring break trip to The Spring Games in Claremont, FL.

The Polar Bears (4-4 overall) began the day with a 3-2 loss to Catholic (D.C.) on Friday morning and a 4-2 victory over Arcadia (Pa.) on Friday afternoon.

Northern then picked up a game against Westfield State (Mass.) Friday night to help make up for three games lost during the week to rain and defeated the Owls 12-4.

Reed earns third place finish at NCAA III Wrestling Championships

ONU Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) earned All-America honors with a third place finish at the 141-pound weight class at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Alliant Engergy Power House in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) clinched All-American honors at the 141-pound weight class with a 7-5 decision Friday night, March 11, on the first day of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday at the Alliant Engergy Power House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Reed (40-5) is 2-1 thus far in the Championships and will face Josiah Gehr of Messiah (Pa) in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.

Diamond sports sign up extended to March 14

Ada diamond sports sign up for baseball, softball and T-Ball have been extended.

ONU men's tennis improves to 4-0 on spring break trip

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team improved to 4-0 during its spring break trip with a pair of victories on Monday at the Hilton Head Resort.

The Polar Bears (10-3 overall) began the morning with an 8-1 victory over Lake Forest (3-3), then won 7-2 over Berry (4-5) in the afternoon.

Freshman Drew Swisher (Findlay) and senior Zach Beaschler (Ada) each went undefeated with 3-0 records on the day.

The pair each won at No. 6 singles and combined to go 2-0 at No. 3 doubles.
