ONU presents Alice Tan Ridley in concert Oct. 6

 

The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents Alice Tan Ridley in concert with the ONU Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8:30 p.m. The ONU Symphony will be under the direction of Lloyd Butler.

Ridley, who began her career singing in the New York subways, gained acclaim through her YouTube videos and was nicknamed the “New York City Subway Idol.” In 2002, she won the Fox talent show “30 Seconds to Fame” with her soulful rendition of “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

Dr. Bruce E. Maryanoff will deliver Ohio Northern University’s 2012 Kritzler Lecture, titled “A Story of Adventure: The Discovery of the Drug TOPAMAX Topiramate for Treating Epilepsy and Migraines,” in The Freed Center for Performing Arts on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.

Student safety week to focus on ‘Navigating Your Way to Personal Safety’

 

Ohio Northern University will begin its second annual student safety week, featuring a number of activities, on Oct. 8. The theme this year is “Navigating Your Way to Personal Safety.”

Sponsored by the ONU Security Office, in partnership with ONU’s Department of History, Politics and Justice and the Office of Business Services and Risk Management, the event will touch on subjects such as identity theft, relationship abuse and human trafficking.

Thad Cochensparger was lifetime farmer in Jackson and Auglaize Townships

Thad M. Cochensparger, 89, of LaFayette, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at 2:30 a.m. at Cridersville Healthcare Center. He was born Oct. 7, 1922, in LaFayette to Russell L. and Anna (McKee) Cochensparger. On Aug. 7, 1943, he married Lenore I. Stevenson and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2010.

Mr. Cochensparger was a lifetime farmer on his farm in JacksonTownship and the family farm of generations in Auglaize Township. He also retired after working for many years from Scot Lads Foods, where he worked in building maintenance. He and his wife wintered in Ft. Myers Beach and Pine Island, Florida, after retirement.
